Bush Chicks go off!
I am posting this, this morning, from a huge room in which I will soon be holding a workshop on ‘Bush Blogging’.
I am at the Queensland Rural Regional and Remote Women’s Network (most easily referred to as Q’Ren) conference in Biloela. (Long-term readers might remember when I attended my first event run by this group two years ago).
The word conference always sounds a little bit ‘dull’ don’t you think? This event… well, it’s many things, but it’s definitely not dull!
More than 200 women gathered in Bilo to be inspired, to be challenged and to meet other amazing women.
We had the QRRRWN leadership award ceremony last night (in the same room I am now typing in) where some incredible women were honoured for work they have done in inspiring in their own fields. This woman, however, completely stole the show…
This is Joy McClymont from far western Queensland. She has a fitness business called ‘Off the Track‘ and this was her version of an acceptance speech…
EVERYBODY. ON YOUR FEET. (Come on, it will only take two minutes)…
She made the organisers whip her iPod on, playing Taylor Swift’s ‘SHAKE IT OFF’…
That crowd is dressed for a ‘Gala Dinner’. It has mayors, shadow ministers, a couple of bemused husbands and a heap of freshly energised woman. They were shaking it off, like there was NO tomorrow.
It was hilarious, it was refreshing, and it was really, really funny watching my dad try to keep up with that action.
I’ve gotta go now and gather my thoughts and pretend I know a lot about blogging.
Catcha on the flip side…
😉

I worry about the women who think it might be great to attend to but shyness or unease in big social situations stops them. Not to say that is not a great event.

Ah, that’s the thing Andrew…. many, MANY shy women there, being gently encouraged to spread their wings. Don’t worry. All are welcomed… 😀

I am totally socially awkward and up until the last minute considered not going. I had a blast. There is sowmthign there for everyone.

I am not overly confident in front of a crowd of people – I suspect I come across as much more outgoing if I am safely behind a keyboard. 😉

What an awesome event. It must have been hilarious watching your dad, if going by experiences of watching my own father try to dance! Have a great time!
