Our best Christmas gift…
Isn’t it funny how (as adults) we wish for very different things that we do as children?
Santa provided my wish, this Christmas…
A ludicrously, long-legged, deliriously glorious redhead.
Yvette’s baby girl was born, five days late, in the paddock beside our house paddock.
(We didn’t leave the expectant Mama in the actual house paddock because it has a grid – and we DON’T need any more unnecessary tragedies thankyouverymuch.)
We also moved the two horses out who had been keeping Yvette company during her gestation – the blue mare was very ‘bossy’ and harassing the newborn a bit (even though Yvette is top of the peck order in that group) and iTunes (who was actually being very good, but we decided not to take chances!).
Yvette had such a bad experience with her first foal that we don’t want any trouble this time – she seemed to breathe a HUGE sigh of relief once she was on her own and able to just let her new baby suckle…
Well nice job there, little one…
Love how baby horses are all legs and action, then suddenly napping…
Nawwww…
OF course being born Christmas Day also means lots and lots of HUMAN inspections…
We inspected her several times.
Dad and Mum inspected a couple of times.
Dash inspected about a gazillion times…
And just on dusk, we decided that we need JUST ONE MORE inspection… Violet and Salina were front row!
The little one was alternately skittish and curious.
We cannot stop oohing and aaahing over her!
Chestnut perfection in one fuzzy little package…
Mr I did make sure he gently handled her – a bit of ‘imprinting’ so she understands we don’t mean her harm.
Yvette was pretty much rolling her eyes by the end of the day… and we knew it was a bit strange and strange for our darling Mama – after losing her first baby so suddenly two years ago.
Come on Little One…
Let’s find somewhere a bit more peaceful!
Oh look… the paparazzi left some hay behind.
A pit-stop won’t hurt I suppose!
So while our lead-up to Christmas was a little bit tragic, and there WERE plenty of presents under the tree, for us, the ‘real’ Christmas happened in out in the paddock.
Nice work Santa.
😉

Gorgeous and the perfect Christmas gift. I find what I wish for is different to the material wishes of childhood. Maybe that is part of growing up. But then presents are alway appreciated too.

What an outstanding Christmas gift your family received! This post totally warmed my heart. Praying this baby has a long, bright future.
I did have to grin at the bossy looking grey hovering in the background of that one shot. 😉
Imagining the name ideas that must be rolling through your heads.

Beautiful Christmas surprise package.
Maybe the “grey” was a bit jealous of the
attention mare and foal were getting?
Sure gave Violet a wonderful Christmas present.
Hope your paddocks are getting some of the
“Huey” stuff?
All the best for 2016.

So, will you give her a Christmas name? Myrr? Or one of the reindeer names? Dasher, Dancer, Donner or Vixen?
She’s adorable!

What a sweetheart!
Well done Yvette!
