Brief (rainbow) relief
One of the best things about working in the bush, is the wildlife you get to share your ‘office space’ with.
Much Aussie wildlife is designed by Mother Nature to blend into the landscape – kangaroos and emus, for example, reflect the often-brown/grey nature of the grasses and timber that occur out here.
Sometimes, however, Mother Nature gets a bit more playful.
For example… Trichoglossus moluccanus!
Before you ask, yes, I totally googled ‘rainbow lorikeets’ to bring you the correct ornithologist’s term for these very pretty birds. I watch birds, but I am nobody’s idea of a ‘birdwatcher’.
This little flock decided to swoop in and have a drink at a trough in our top yards, while we were having smoko there. We had been sorting out and weighing bulls and steers. It was pretty dusty work – it’s very warm and dry here as we hurtle towards Summer – and these guys really provided a gorgeous (if all-too-short) reprieve from worrying about lack of rain.
They were really not the slightest bit concerned about our presence at all…
I always wonder, when I see birdlife during a stopover: where have they been? And where are they off to?
And whether they discuss ‘those dull-coloured humans’ amongst themselves after they have checked us out?
Heh.
Hope your week is flying by well, and you enjoyed our quick flash of bush colour here…
🙂

What gorgeous birds!! I love seeing birds and we get a great variety, both at our house and around the pond and pasture. I’ll admit some I don’t love seeing as much… like the buzzards (black vultures) that recently killed a cow and her calf during the birth. 🙁
These are just stunning! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Thanks Kelly… my absolute favourites are our wedgetail eagles. Which I guess can mean death here too. So regal though.

The birds are beautiful too. We often see a few of them around here in town. Hope you got some of that rain that came down the inland in the last couple of days.

Wonderful images of these colourful birds. I can quite understand how they brightened your day amidst the dust and hard work. Sincerely hope the heavy rainfalls found your land.
