Big boys, (sooks) and cheeky girls…
It’s been raining here – gorgeous, stormy, drizzly, random rain. We are pinching ourselves and soaking in the freshly saturated (in raindrops AND colour) landscapes.
I am always a bit more photograph-ish when it’s been raining… makes my trigger finger itch!
We visited with a few of our bovine and equine characters this afternoon… thought you’d like to share in a smattering of snaps from the paddock.
Our show bulls were first to see us – the BIG boys!
This is Memphis… he’s gorgeous, and a bit of a loner. Does ‘dark and handsome’ particularly well…
This boy is Maverick – he is sweet and has a sensational butt. And he knows it…
His name is Moonshine… and he’s a little bit special.
He’s divine to look at, and a whole lotta bull to hold!
What a sook…
Each of these boys weighs somewhere north of 900kg. So you don’t want them standing on your toes. They will all be coming with us to Beef 2018 (a huge expo held every three years in Rockhampton, QLD). Hopefully they will get their fill of cuddles there… it’d be tragic if they didn’t!
We also spotted THIS dude in the paddock – remember when he was born back in November??
Although his Mama did her best to shepherd him away from the camera, I did manage a quick snap of our little soon-to-be-grey colt.
He’s a proper little man – look at those muscles! A little power-pack… who is not-so-little anymore.
Of course, we didn’t get to cuddle him, so we stocked up on our horse-scented snuggles when we got home.
With THIS darling girl…
iTunes! She of the half-blue eye and gorgeous nature.
And iTunes’ paddock-mate, this funny chestnut filly…
The cheekiest wench in the south: Vedette. She is our resident red-head and centre-stage lover! Vedette DOES mean ‘star’ in French, so she is VERY aptly named!
Both fillies have very little personal space – they were handled heaps when very young, and pretty much think humans are here to dote on them and feed them. Which, when I think about it, is basically true…
While iTunes looks like she is biting Mr I here, she’s not. She is very gently scraping her teeth and tongue on his hand. A ‘taste test’, if you will…
Not sure he got a five-star review there… the very definition of curling your lip!
Its been super-humid here (our downside to some lovely rain) and we have all been sweating – the horses always love to check out the salt on your skin and hat…
Check out Vedette, her eye on me, making sure she is centre of frame!
And trying a nibble of the Akubra while she is there.
Super delicate, and not an ounce of malice there. Just loads of sass and cheek.
What a pair of characters…
Fair to say we walked into the house smelling satisfyingly ‘horsey’.
*happy sigh*
Are there heaps of characters at your place too?
🙂

I am truly impressed with your big boys!! Our lone bull is nowhere near the size of his predecessor, Bully, but he gets the job done… which is all that matters for us. 😉
We’ve had the wettest February I can remember in a long time with more expected before the month closes out.
