The 2019 Calendar!
Here it is… the 10th annual Bush Babe of Oz Calendar.
I cannot believe that it’s been a DECADE since I started doing a calendar of my bush photos, paired with quotable quotes…
This publication is a labour of love that ends up in all kinds of places all over the world. Not only that, but each year it raises money for charities close to my heart.
This year, my charity of choice is Dolly’s Dream – an incredible organization formed in the aftermath of tragedy, to fight bullying online and in real life. I love following their Facebook page too, which is full of amazing, uplifting and inspiring memes. $2 from every BB of Oz calendar sold will go to Dolly’s Dream.
A new leaf for the start of the year! Sir Isaac Newton is spot on with this observation…
February Emus never fail to crack me up – it is actually doubtful that two of these heads is any better than one. Bird-brains! They do melt into the landscape particularly well though, don’t they?
March and Moonshine… honestly, the love everyone has for this bull, and this pic in particular! It’s my birth-month – and that housework quote is pretty much right up my alley! Hah!
April’s image is a favourite of mine – our weaner bulls getting their first walk as a mob with hubs and Dash, Diamond and Maggie keeping the tail in close. Winchester’s ears in foreground and an awesome quote from a man who knew all about forward motion and success!
May’s image never fails to make me go ‘naaawwwww’. Our colt ‘Confession’ at about a day old, with his Mama ‘Scandal’.
June’s combo… The rear-view overlooking our Big Bridge and river, with a pretty outstanding sky. I never knew who said this much-quoted piece of country-flavoured advice – nice work John Muir!
July’s offering… Windmills and Australia – pretty synonymous right? This one has a cracking view (actually, it’s feet are in the water when the river is at capacity!). Recent fires made the colours a bit special, and the horizon a bit smudgy. Ralph Waldo Emerson is always good for a quote – this one is nicely to the point…
August is the month for horses’ Birthday (they officially share one)! I can almost hear that ‘music’ just looking at this pic… married with a quote from this gorgeous poem:
The hoofs of the horses!—Oh! witching and sweet
Is the music earth steals from the iron-shod feet;
No whisper of lover, no trilling of bird
Can stir me as hoofs of the horses have stirred.They spurn disappointment and trample despair,
And drown with their drum-beats the challenge of care;
With scarlet and silk for their banners above,
They are swifter then Fortune and sweeter than Love.On the wings of the morning they gather and fly,
In the hush of the night-time I hear them go by
The horses of memory thundering through
With flashing white fetlocks all wet with the dew.When you lay me to slumber no spot can you choose
But will ring to the rhythm of galloping shoes,
And under the daisies no grave be so deep
But the hoofs of the horses shall sound in my sleep.’Isn’t that just beautiful?
Now THIS page (August) is a bit special – these hooks were shot at our local Historical Centre, and the quote is one used regularly by a local lady (whom I did a mini-biography on for a book I contributed to this year ‘Cattlemen in Pearls’ (more on that shortly!). I actually don’t mind a little rust in my images – patina, I think they call it these days!
September marks the beginning of calving season here, so what better month to share this snapshot of a baby taking his first steps? Mama is nearby, watching for trouble. I chanced upon this quote in my online trawling and knew immediately which photo needed it.
October – the end of the school year approaching, and Christmas on the horizon! Things can get a little testy – and sometimes you need a bit of a laugh! Chimmy (the horse) was not keen to share his bit of hay that he had stolen from the bulls’ hay feeders. His expression says it all, really. Heh.
This pic has been called the ‘circles of life’ by a reader, and I kinda liked that reference – punching home this quote which sums up ageing to perfection! We are all working on our ‘works of art’, right?
And for December, this sweet image of gum nuts,a busy little ant and generous lashing of ‘bokeh’. When we were little, my Mum used to paint gum nut sprays with silver paint, as a Christmas decoration. It was gorgeous – a very Aussie festive bauble!
And who better than the Bard to offer the perfect last words for the final month of the calendar year?
And of course, a chart to record rainfall (or snowfall, depending on where the calendar ends up!).

Can I simply say what a comfort to discover somebody who really understands what they are discussing
on the web. You definitely understand how to bring an issue
to light and make it important. A lot more people ought
to look at this and understand this side of your story. It’s surprising you are not more popular since
you definitely possess the gift.
