Quick Cup G’day
Well, we are back. Did you realise we were gone? Well, we were. For about 30 hours, we escaped the zoo here and flitted off to the Big Smoke.
Twas a bit sad to miss out on this particular annual event, but Mr Incredible and I did get to have a little quality couple time together (a rare thing indeed) and actually went to the place we spent our first real date.
These are very bad snaps taken with my mobile phone of the (always) amazing type of meal to be had at a wonderful place called Little Tokyo – an amazing authentic Japanese restaurant run by a certain Mrs O’Brien (that name cracks me up considering she is VERY Japanese) who has run the place for 44 years. The sushi was DIVINE… we were starving and pounced on the tray as it hit the table.
As always, we ummed and aahed before ordering Shabu Shabu for main course…
THE Best Sauce in the World accompanies the Shabu Shabu – some kind of blend of soy and sesame and something deliciously sweet. I have been trying to wheedle the recipe from them every time I go. I have not yet succeeded. Now there SHOULD be a series of shots of the elegant ritual of Shabu Shabu here – with artfully arranged vegetables and paper-thin beef and noodles which you cook at the table yourself in a hot broth, and mix with the Best Sauce in the World.
But we were JUST too hungry, so you get the aftermath instead…
It was mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmagic.
We worked out our first visit to Little Tokyo was 16 years ago… that fact shocked me into silence for a good five minutes. (I know).
This morning we did some business-y stuff (won’t bore you with details here) then some Melbourne Cup-y stuff which I fully intend to bore you with shortly.
Seeing as how eleven of the 30 hours gone were spent driving, you will please forgive me if I postpone the full catch-up til tomorrow? Thanks for your great comments on the last post – glad to report the calf (as yet unnamed) continues to thrive under the tender ministrations of Bay Lulic, the wonder cow.
Catch y’all on the other side of some Z’s.
🙂

The food and even the crumbs look soooooo GOOD! Glad you were able to get away even if you had to drive and drive to do it. Thanks also for the update on the orphan. Your place has the best foster mom aka wonder cow.
