Dizzy from Disney

Have you ever seen excited kids? You know, popping out of their skins, excited beyond reason?

Our two have had one very large shiny carrot held out before them, for the duration of our American adventure.  And seeing as how we are more than three weeks into the journey, it has been a handy thing to keep Dash and Violet focussed on the reward for reasonable behaviour during the ‘adult’ (or ‘boring’) parts of the trip.

And that carrot? Disneyland.

In all it’s shiny-shiny glory.  Dash’s eyes in particular have lit up at the mere mention of the place for months now.

And yesterday, we finally made good on our promises/threats and took them for 11 hours of fantastic fantasy.

Want a peek into the action?

Before trekking with the hordes into the theme park, we dressed appropriately. You know, hats, comfy shoes, national tattoos…

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie… just in case we forgot while inside.

The excitement as we entered the gates and encountered the first of the perfectly manicured gardens was palpable…

It really is like entering some kind of children’s fantasy storybook…

First stop: It’s A Small World.

It’s a nice gentle place to begin – even if the Aussie section was a little thin on the ground…

although drop bears did appear to be represented!

Next stop was Toon Town… which Dash was concerned about (he was scared of the bad guys in the Roger Rabbit movie – to be honest, so am I!)…

But on finding a number of gags ready to be hammed up, he soon warmed to the concept.

Oh yeah… Violet gets into the swing of things…

And meets a couple of her favourite characters…

Goofy was very friendly…

And Minnie was a delight – her house was gorgeous (another post though, this one is already image-saturated!).

Of course, with Dash, it’s generally about food…

Poor old Mickey never stood a chance!

Nor did my chocolate ice-cream cone – better on Dash’s hips than mine anyway!

And what does one do after eating rich food?

Why, they spin around at great pace with a child at the controls… that’s Dash at the wheel (in the shadow on hub of the rocket ride) and me distracting myself with a camera!

Amid the violent spinning rides, we explored islands for treasure.  We found some, but unfortunately it was all superglued into place…

We discovered at the Faerie Castle that I have a pink leopard for a daughter, rather than a princess…

Hands up who already knew this?

Of course, she was enamoured of that favourite of young girls through the decades, Tinkerbell…

This light-up adornment to her dinner drink captivated her.

There was a minor moment of tragedy when Tink fell apart during the meal.

Luckily a replacement was on hand…

And for Dash…

Buzz Lightyear – to the rescue!

All in all, an enormous day (with just a smattering of images from a gazillion-photo day!)

And you know – we are backing up again tomorrow…

Wish us luck!

An exhausted…

BB

Oh my, what a day. Were you in California or Florida ? We have Disney parks on both Coasts here in this country–some for everyone. Sounds like a great time was had by all.

I’ve been to Disneyland once, when Diane was about 2 or 3 – went with a friend and her kids. The men backed out! Small World was my favorite then. Many years later I visited Disney World in Florida a few times as my parents lived not far away. Your pictures are amazing – but I’ll bet your littles were very tired at the end of the day! Not to mention you and Mr. I!!! Have another wonderful day.

Anyone that has ever wondered about why you always hear people say that they are so glad to be home after a vacation only needs to read this post… I was worn out just reading this post. You may have to change your blog header to Bush’ed’ Babe after all this vacay..

    Whew… Helen

What a Grand Finale to your trip – yes, another day will be necessary to see all of Disneyland – my feet were really sore from all the walking -especially across that massive carpark if you are staying at one of the Disneyland ( Anaheim) hotels?
Hope you ALL enjoy all the rides – even the real hair raising one.
    You’ll need “R & R” when you return home.
    Cheers

I went to Disney World in Florida when I was 18. I begged my parents to let me accompany them and my three younger siblings mostly because it was a free trip to the beach and I was a poor student.

After waiting in line for what felt like half my young life, we finally got into the Small World Ride. Due to some unforeseen glitch, the ride came to a screeching halt midway through, and we were stuck for literally HOURS in the dark, in that little plastic boat, surrounded by water. Not once did they think to turn down the music or shut off those insane spinning dolls. Whenever I hear that theme song, I shudder, oh the horror…the horror….

I’m so happy you’re having a great trip!

It’s been a looooong time since I’ve been to Disney. My sons went at the age of 4 & 2. Looks like you had a blast. And yes, it’s completely exhausting!

Oh my gosh, two days at Disney? Ooooh. We only ever did one day at a time. Two days. Oh. You are champions!

The kids certainly deserved this; they truly were good as gold, from my little glimpse of things.
