Catching up (and cold)

Mornin’ all!

It’s a cool, cool morning here at Granite Glen – 9am and just over 5 degrees Celsius.

It did dip below zero overnight and give us a big ol’ frost, but I wasn’t heading out into it at 6.30am thankyou very much!  I was clinging onto my coffee mug to keep my fingers from falling off.  Brrrrr…

IN OTHER NEWS: This post will be a bit of a patchwork post as I have been a little distracted over the school holidays – where distracted = visitors, laundry, catering, laziness – from posting all the interesting things happening here.   So much… I wish I was more like Mikey of Arizona who packs her updates with the most incredible lists of activities.

Among the many, many things I have missed have been the mustering pics which I promised you back here.

We have done a few musters over the school holidays, with help from a young fellow who is living in the Quarters here at the moment. He’s eighteen and quite the nicest young man (I sound like my mother!).  I have decided my job is to fatten him up – he is a coeliac so I am on a sharp learning curve with the whole gluten-free thing. Any hints gratefully accepted!

It was slightly warmer when I took these photos – but I still wished I had picked up some of the deerskin gloves that we purchased in Houston for my husband and kids.  Why do mother’s never think of these things for themselves? Hmmmm.

You can see my Dad and Violet and her little friend (who sometimes comes mustering with us) bringing the mob of cows towards me (I was in the lead, riding the horse ahead of the cows to show them which way to walk).

It’s always nice family time (at least when everything goes according to plan!) bringing a mob in.

These girls were well-behaved.

Same cannot be said of my Dad.  If you’ve been visiting here for a while, you will know he is not going in to cuddle his granddaughter here, but to pretend to take her off the horse (rodeo style). He’s been doing it for about five decades (and cracking himself up) so can’t see him giving it up anytime soon!

I have also been handling weaner bulls here at the house – guys like this little stud-to-be.

Hey honey – I’ll be with you (with lucerne hay in hand) real soon.

Must sign off now so I can scoot into town to post off some items.

Hope you enjoyed our little catch up. I promise to be a tad more coherent next time.

🙂

Such a handsome bunch! Love the dark hides and the floppy ears. Oh, yeah, I was talking about the cattle not the people.

Sorry your weather is icy. Hope the freeze doesn’t take out anything important. South east Idaho is finally getting so warm we’ve decided to bring the air conditioner out of the attic and stick it in a window.

I feel the need to point out that the brown stuff on our ancient thermometre is NOT toffee but discoloured glue from re-sticking the glass back into place. Hey, it still works, right?

Well, we’re HOT here!! Went to visit my younger daughter and her AC is on the fritz. Her apartment was over 90F when I left this afternoon!!

I just love cow pictures. Very nice.

Brrr! It has finally gotten warm here in Utah…but rainy. We have more water than this desert knows what to do with. Tons of flooding…nothing like yours…but still scary.

I love the pics! That first one of Mr. I is awesome. Very MFSR 😉 And i love the one of you leading the mob, they are so shiny and pretty.

Good luck staying warm and getting some sleep! 🙂
