Difficulties in Design
Hello there you lot… guess what? No polls for you (on this blog) today! Aren’t you lucky?
I have just arrived back in from a lovely family photo shoot, and am contemplating several clothing conundrums, as we prepare for a 60s/70s themed 50th birthday party for a friend tonight. My efforts in finding a kaftan (that all-forgiving outfit of the chosen era) at the op shops in local centres proved unrewarding… one woman said to me:
‘You do REALISE that was half a century ago, right?‘
Apparently I am being too old-fashioned for our op shops… *sigh*
Meanwhile, the votes are in and I am currently trying to sort out a good ‘balance’ of images in the 2013 calendar… I need shots that don’t look like ones similar to previous calendars, with a decent balance of landscapes and creatures and farm-related stuff. Along with trying to keep the ‘Aussie-ness’ in the selection too. Then of course there is the quote selection to go with each shot…
It’s a tricky process.
My Photoshop screen is a jumble of potential pages – looking like this!
I hope you like the end result – I hope to post up the final designs next week sometime.
In the meantime I am sharing a couple of the conundrums I found myself in (and mostly out of) over the past 24 hours.
I found this shot of cobblers pegs. Hated universally by bush kids, these little burrs get into socks like nobodies business! But I adore the focus and bokeh and strange colour from the background… what do you think? Maybe not a calendar pic, but suspect a version of this will find it’s way onto my wall (or at least screen wallpaper!).
I also adore this shot – Lord of All He Surveys from Up High!
As yet no goanna has made a BB calendar. I think it’s about time one debuted? Don’t you? My tentative quote to go with it:
‘Take a Walk on the Wild Side’ (Lou Reed). Heh.
Then I unearthed this one – taken during my mates’ visit here recently.
So delicate and Spring-y… see the little orange bug and the leaf insect exploring the flower pods? I love it…. but where would I put it?
And I do think this dude needs to get his prickly little face in there somewhere too… my hurdling hedgehog echidna!
This one DID make it…
Among my all-time favourite shots from my corner of the bush. It makes me happy (and my car is clean – worth recording for posterity!).
Now if you wouldn’t mind sorting this out for me amongst yourselves, I have to go transform my family into ABBA.
As you do.
😉

Please, please, please include the Echidna!!! September would be a good month for him. 😉
I can’t believe there hasn’t been a Goanna before. I guess it’s just because I have one (of yours) framed on my wall that I forget this. 🙂

No – we do not need the cobblers pegs for a whole month!! I love the bokeh and effect and all of that, but it would be a month I would have in a drawer to peek at in a darkened room without looking at the picture, because I remember the focus and bokeh of HOURS on the back steps removing the beggars from Dad’s socks.
Love the clean car shot – perhaps a false picture over the above for us who need therapy for weed work?

The Echidna is a worthy inclusion.

The Cobblers Pegs is a lovely shot, but it makes my ankles itch. HOURS of getting them out of my kids socks.

Ha! I wear Kaftan’s all the time! I buy new silk and cotton ones though- haven’t they heard of Camilla?
A black car in the dusty bush? You must include that one!

I just saw on Gardening Australia that the leaves of Cobblers Pegs are great in risotto – a photo of risotto would be good.
