Australia – should be Hugh-ge!

Tonight is the world premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s movie, Australia.
Despite the fact that the name of this flick puts me off (seriously, naming a movie after an entire nation? That’s a long way to fall, man!)… well, I’m kinda cautiously excited about it.
After all, Hugh Jackman with his shirt off… that cannot be a bad thing!

And I also love ‘Our Nicole’.
Despite the fact that she was married to Tom and owns a completely frozen forehead, she appears to have redeemed herself by marrying the fabulous Keith (oh, I do love his music) and topping it off by popping out sweet little Sunday. (OK, again with the names!).
And I am a sucker for grand panoramas of our amazing countryside and sweeping outback vistas. And did I mention you get a glimpse of sexy Hugh sans upper body apparel? It’s worth mentioning again… just in case you missed it the first time.
So tell me, what’s your take on this flick?
And do you reckon it’s OK to name a movie after a country?
Seriously?

Of course, it’s perfectly ok, as long as a good looking man is running around in it without his shirt. It’s important that this one rule is adhered to. Otherwise, you’d have a glut of mediocre movies named after countries featuring women dashing around without shirts. And that would just stink, wouldn’t it? Sometimes your questions baffle me, BB.

I had a word verification earlier – mentle.

I think if you’re clever enough to have cowboy hugh jackman take of his shirt and then also wear a tux possibly you know what’s ok to name a movie… I think it’s fine? I’m trying to think of a similar movie title that would work as an okay example but perhap he’s just going to have to be a trail blazer.

I’m really excited to see this film, but I’m a bit wary of Nicole in this role. I am cautiously optimistic. I used to love her, going right back to her DEAD CALM days, but since she froze her face….blech. I loved her performance in THE HOURS. Awesome.

How can you go wrong with Hugh Jackman, though? I’ll have to look up when it opens in Montreal. We always have to wait until they do a French translation before they’ll open in English, so we lag behind. I could always fly Down Under.

I figure naming a movie after a country is about as appropriate as naming a child after a day of the week.

I can not wait to see it. And well Hugh Jackman is just a bit yummy, isn’t he.

I am so excited for this movie! I love Hugh Jackman of course and his beautiful chest but i also love Baz Luhrmann. Strictly Ballroom is one of my favorite movies of all time. I honestly don’t think you should call a movie after a whole country but hopefully this one will be good. I know it will be a beautifully shot film. If there’s one thing Australia’s got, it’s amazing vistas.

Oh! the WV describes Jackman perfectly. Sphyce 🙂

This is one I’m really looking forward to seeing. Thanks for reminding me about it. Dh’s birthday is coming up and we usually go out for dinner and a movie. I think this is one he might like as well–as long as Hugh Jackman isn’t too distracting;o)

I think it’s okay to name the movie Australia. I think a lot of Americans have a fascination with Australia and the name will catch their attention. Plus, there’s no doubting what the movie is about or where it’s supposed to take place.

I’ll be going to see Australia as soon as it’s out. It looks like a great movie and Hugh Jackman looks as good as ever.

It’s okay that the movie is named after the whole country. If anyone can do it justice it’s Baz Luhrmann.

You should do a movie review after it comes out.

The constant hype and PR and non-stop tv ads have put me right off the movie.
Not a big fan of Nicole’s these days, though I could sit and stare at a pic of Hugh for hours lol.

Portia – great idea! Except we are two-and-a-half hours from our nearest movie theatre… the rest of the world will have already seen it before I get there!!!

Jenni and Gramps – I do believe you Yanks kinda like Aussie-related stuff. Which is like totally flattering (pretending for a sec it has something to do with me!) but which mystifies most of us. Of course we think we live in the best place in the world – something which most Americans also claim! We expect y’all to start arguing the point, I guess!

Kate – agreed. Baz is a genius (a bit OTT with the vistas sometimes? But who can argue with something so beautifully done?)

Tami – beautifully put. My thoughts EXACTLY. Sunday Rose? SUnday roast. Tom Cruise. All eerily connected! Mind you, I still love Nicole – no-one does “buttoned up” and “pale” quite so well.

Pam – shall I head to the airport now? We’d totally love to see you Down Under… think of it as inspiration for your writing!!!

Dawna – WELCOME! And yes. Hugh in pretty much anything trumps bad movie name. *Sigh*

M+B – hope you can overcome your aversion. Perhaps you can just close your eyes for those bit where Nicole is on screen?

Debby – who taught you how to ITALICISE?? Fess up!!

  • Bush Babe

Jayne – the great thing about being in the bush? Not enough media reaches here to get me sick of ANYTHING… except the net. Sorry to push it on you again!!
    🙂

Hugh Jackman! OMG! Without a shirt!!! Mum and I have been hanging for this movie to come out. Can’t wait to see it.
The Name mystifies me. Baz Luhrman rocks. Nicole fascinates me. Hugh – well you know!

WV deralme. Yes Hugh can derail me!!!

Hugh Jackman. Australia. What’s not to love?!

    (And the italics are for Debby and Jeanie.) In fact, I just saw my very first tv add for the movie. Saw Jackman and went: hmmm. I’ll have to check it out. ;-}

My WV is: bebacc. Yes. I’ll be back!

  • I'm Julie

Well, I think you already know I am obsessed with all things Aussie. And Aussie or not Baz is a GENIUS. Love love love love love him. And Hugh is kinda purdee, too. AND I’m a big fan of the sweeping epic movies.

So, yeah, I’ll be seein that one…

Though, like most, Nicole’s face is freakin me out these days, too. I try to get past it, but honestly…

I hope the movie is a massive hit, mainly because I want Baz to start getting the recognition he deserves.

Like most folks from the “States”, I’m fascinated with most things Australian. It reminds me of how our West used to be. I’m absolutely going to see this movie, I don’t care what the title.
Hugh Jackman makes my mouth water!
