World Weather (and weeds)

If you have been listening to my twitter talk lately, you’ll already know that things are getting very cool around here.   Temperatures are regularly in the single figures (translates to less than 48 degrees in Farenheit) in my kitchen at breakfast time (til the heater kicks in anyway!).  I admit I am a bit of a cold frog, so the winter woollies have been unearthed already!  Some properties around here have even registered the first frosts of the year.

It feels for all the world like we have leapt from Summer directly into Winter – which is a shame, as Autumn is my very favourite season.

I took Dash and Violet for an explore yesterday (Mothers’ Day) when it warmed up and they had a lovely time collecting treasures and hacking at wild cucumber plants. I wandered off to get some shots of purple weeds and old weathered timber.

The outlook for the week ahead is for more of the same (our place seems to get a bit colder than that forecast for our nearest town which is 50km away).

weather may10

We don’t mind if the cloud cover keeps those cooler temps at bay… even if they only bring us less than one millimetre of rain!  The pasture is definitely drying off and losing that amazing vivid green of our post-January rains.  I am thinking we need to get ourselves ready for another dry cold Winter…

How’s things at your place?

Hot? Sunny? Cold? Windy? Dry? Green?

We’re coming out of a very rainy winter/spring here in California! The grasses and weeds are so high, the wildflowers have been spectacular, but the hills are beginning to lose their green as we inch into late spring/early summer! I hope you get your autumn….it’s my favorite season, too, although it’s not as pretty here as other places in the USofA.

We had snow here again today, highly unusual this time of year, even in Montreal. The high is normally around 16C but it was 1C this morning and snowing…and frost is predicted tonight. Crazy.

Lovely, lovely sunny autumn day here on the mid-north coast today. Pity I spent too much of it inside. Forecast 24 degrees, only hit 22, but didn’t feel at all cold. Love this kind of weather.

Cold. Just above freezing. It snowed yesterday, but is not snowing today. We did have another frost this morning. I am a ‘cold frog’ too. Which means that I haven’t put my woolies away yet.

Good morning! Although we had warm weather a couple of weeks ago, the temps really dropped for Diane’s and baby Henry’s visit on Thursday. It stayed in the 40s and 50s (F) while she was here, and she even had to shop for a sweatshirt for herself and an outfit for Henry. She flew standby, so we had to head for the airport at 4am yesterday and it was just over 30F!!! Today 50, windy, and rainy.

We have had a lovely spring so far, but today is misty, foggy, wet, and cold. And to add insult to injury, we have a tornado outbreak scheduled for this afternoon. It is just now noon, and the worst of it is supposed to be between 3 and 6 p.m. My fingers are crossed that it doesn’t get as bad as they are thinking…..

It’s been warm and windy in south Arkansas. Had our share of humidity lately, too.

Younger daughter (in college 250 miles to the west of me) has been listening to the tornado warning sirens all evening. Makes a mother’s heart leap to get a phone call and hear that noise in the background!! Fortunately she just texted that all seems to be clear now.

A high of 27 today with a thunder storm dropping a few mms late afternoon. Down to about 12 tonight so not too bad, but heading below 10 degree minimums from tomorrow – burrrr. At least we can wrap up and stay inside, spare a thought for the wildlife – must be a shock to them too when it changes so fast.

Had the freakiest little sun shower yesterday – right out of the blue (so to speak!). Barely joined th dots on the footpath. There was our ‘less than 1mm’ I see referred to in our forecasts so often!
