How I roll…
Found this online this morning…
A few stats about farming (in Australia) that amazed me…
I think we have a lot of preconceptions and prejudice to correct in our urban-heavy country. And I don’t think beating people around the head with angry words is the way to right those things. I know I stop listening when people start yelling – I suspect most people do. Plus I’m a lover, not a fighter. I suspect that even the most ardent liberationists and I still have heaps in common. I don’t think everyone has to be a meat-eater. Or wear leather. Or enjoy rodeo.
But that’s just me. I am proud of what we do here. Quietly proud. I don’t expect everyone to totally ‘get’ that, until they experience it. So I try to share our experiences here. Even the yucky parts. The yucky, heart-wrenching but necessary parts. The parts that force bushies to become so darned practical that we can seem a little rough sometimes.
It’s among the many, many reasons that I blog.
After all, how can I possibly expect fellow Aussies to understand (and back us up) when we have problems, when they can’t see the whole picture?
(And you have to admit, I share LOTS and lots of pictures with y’all.)
And it’s also how I keep focus on the important bits, the beautiful bits, the darn-it-feels-good-to-help-feed-the-world bit.
The I-love-raising-happy-animals bit.
The amazing sharing-this-work-with-our-whole-family bit.
It’s how I roll.
Did you already know the facts shown in the Australian Year of the Farmer clip above?
Is there something you would like to know more about, when it comes to our kind of farming?
Feel free to ask or share in comments…
🙂

I love and admire farmers, I don’t think a lot of people have a realistic understanding of the work they do or the hard efforts and how quickly things can turn bad.

Violet’s acceptance of animals just blows me away–she’s so calm.

I shared this video on my blog some time back BB, and still enjoy looking at it. The facts are quite staggering and do make me feel proud of what we do. I guess the main reason for why I blog is to chronicle the growth and happenings of my family, but if it helps show others our way of life, that’s a wonderful aside.

Yeah another happy farmer. Love the photo of your daughter and her friend. I am proud of being a farmer too but a big pond away from you. Still we should all be proud. Great post. B
