Good MORNIN’ Sunshine

G’day you lot.  It’s been a grey old week here on the property… drizzling rain for four straight days which I WILL NOT complain about.  I adore the sound of my tanks filling, which in turn relieves the guilt associated with showers longer than three minutes. That’s got to be a good thing, right?

Many Queenslanders will have been struggling with kids stuck inside on school holidays with the wet weather… I am lucky enough that (a) our niece Salina is visiting and is a built-in activity and entertainment centre (and into reading, so easily amused) and (b) this house is enormous so SOME romping and scope for shedding excess energy is available to caged kids.  Also, we own a LOT of DVDs.  This last thing is not an accident.  We have been stuck inside for weeks out here before we are prepared!

I admit that my dryer breaking down two days ago has not added to the festive atmosphere of this house – unless you are into the ‘Chinese laundry’ look for decor. *sigh*

So the sight of this, this morning, brought a smile to every face in the Granite Glen house…

    Peg out the clothes?
Many years ago when we moved to Australia, we were in a flat that had a washer and dryer. The dryer however would run for an eon and never dry anything. I rang the super who told me that it was not designed to dry — but to ‘fluff.’ He went on to say that I must take the laundry down the line to dry and then bring it back up (it was down the hill behind another building) to fluff it a bit in the machine.
That didn’t please me but I was trying to be a good guest in a foreign country and set out smartly to get something with which to affix the clothing to the line. Where I grew up those little spring loaded gizmos were called “clothes pins.”
When I asked for them I was given safety pins, sewing pins, and all sorts of things none of which were suitable for hanging out the wash. When I resorted to sign language and a bit of magnificent mime work, they said in unison, “Oh, Luv, you mean PEGS.”
Until today though I didn’t know that one would refer to the activity as “going to peg out clothes.” Thanks for the memory and the chuckle.

    Aaaaaaaaaah !!!!!!
You have that ‘blinding yellow thing” also! I had to enquire this morning what the hell was it?
So the grass is now all green and lush, the livestock are all fat and contented, our feet might lose the “webby things” attached and we can stop learning the language of the ducks! And we can get our clothes dry! I don’t like dryers – I prefer the pegs on the line and the sun and breeze.
Also, maybe, the flu and conjunctivites on the rampage here in Brisbane, may be overcome – a la natural procedures without all this expensive “pill taking”!
Obviously we have all been saying our prayers for some weather relief!
    Cheers

    Oi woman!

After a day with William and the great poops, the lead in (warm and round and begins w/ ‘s’) led me to an entirely different assessment of your morning. Glad your day started w/ sunshine. The other…well…gosh. I do so love that little boy, but no more raisins at grandma’s!
    Debby´s last blog post ..Interesting
