Christmas kicks off

Our little school’s annual Christmas event was held this weekend…

xmastree_4461

This involves local Mums and Dads spending some energy hanging fairy lights to put some festive sparkle into our little old local hall.  (Located in the nearest township which consists of six lived-in houses, two unlived-in houses, one school, no shops and unused railway siding).

Mr Incredible and I started early to get the ‘high’ lights up, with other P&C members bringing the Christmas tree and providing help with the final lights and decorations for the tree.  Many morph into Santa’s helpers for a few hours to wrap gifts and generally get the hall ready for the Christmas Tree. (And no, don’t know why this event is called the ‘Christmas Tree’ – a tradition that started well before my time!).

The kids spend hours in the weeks prior to the event preparing their little skits, some Christmas themed, and some inspired by current music and timeless humour!

Parents, teachers, neighbours and relatives piled into the hall to enjoy the entertainment…

Six white boomers (non-Aussies can find explanation here) – played by the Preps.

Who then serenaded us with carols…

And red noses… beyond cute!

The Big Kids showed their moves…

And some Gangnam Style!

Dash and a couple of his larrikan mates carried out a number of funny skits…

These boys LOVE an audience!

Violet is a less an actor than a dancer…

Choreography and performance by The Go Girl Sisters!

They were a picture of concentration!

It was a cross between Abba and River Dance.  I clapped very loudly!

And then there was the time-honoured routine involving clowns and cream pies…

Right in the kisser!

Of course, the highlight of the night is always the arrival of Santa (with many of the older kids trying to work out which adult male is missing from the crowd!).

Santa approved of the carols sung by the children (to encourage his visit).

He handed out gifts to all carollers – including one to the President of the P&C committee (which seemed to delight and shock the children looking on!).

Two students from our little school will graduate from Year 7 this year – they made lovely speeches and cut a cake.  The latter event seemed to be especially popular…

Paparazzi and cake-stalkers…

We barbecued many sausages, chicken and steak burgers, caught up with friends and neighbours and generally enjoyed the evening.

I have the obligatory Cute Baby of the Night photo for you too…

You ready?

(Hang onto your ovaries, girls)…

Pippa. The Polka Dot Cherub…

I KNOW. Sorry.  This one is the fifth child for this family – each as cute as this. You can kinda see why there are five.

It was a late night but a lovely one – the morning after the lights were down, the tree removed, the chairs stacked and the floor swept.

But it’s now irrefutable – the festive season is officially here now.

So today I am clearing out living room in preparation for the installation of Christmas decor.  The tinsel will be unearthed and our new deck will wear its first fairy lights.  Just as soon as I hit ‘publish’…

Are you into the Christmas spirit yet?

🙂

We have a bit of the Gangnam craze in our household as well. (I had to search YouTube so that I was up with it!!)
Is it me, or has social media got us all delving into the Christmas decorations this week-end;)

What a great night!! I volunteer to come live in one of those unlived in houses in your little township. Tell Violet that her shoes are truly excellent, and that little Pippa has the most adorable legs.

Our small community entered the Christmas season with a very Scottish ‘Aladdin’ pantomime! It was huge fun with a cast of what seemed like hundreds, aged from eight to eighty. It was produced entirely by the community – costumes, scenery, special effects, music and script all original. It ran to a capacity audience for three nights, so was a great success and got us all geared up for the coming festivities,
