Things with Wings – POLL #6

We are getting close to getting these images sorted for the 2014 Calendar – man you guys are helpful!  (Make sure you check out previous polls and results at bottom of this post).

Today we are selecting the best of Things with Wings – birds and dragonflies to be precise.  Ready for some airbourne beauty?

Alrighty then… the contestants are:

bird_6993 hoz eATTITUDE IS ALL  – I was at the horse yards when a tiny bird (a ‘striated pardalote’) flitted in to tell us all off – it perched on this steel post, warbled and flitted and danced there for a few seconds before vanishing. One of those times I am glad I take that Nikon pretty much EVERYWHERE with me!

CARPORT KOOKABURRA – Among my favourite Aussie birds (not in the least because they love to catch snakes) this young kookaburra  checked out his lunch prospects from the corner of our carport roof.

RIVER ARRAY – snapped during a visit to the river pump earlier this month as the late afternoon sun turned the water liquid gold, I was delighted to see three different water birds in this shot.

DUSKY FLOCK – Taken the same day as the pic above, this flock of egrets (I think!) swooped in unison low over the rippling surface of the river.  So graceful and sweet.

THE HUNTER – a chicken hawk who patrols an area where we often walk cattle through, shadows the mob as they disturb small mammals and lizards for him to swoop on.  Every feather is working hard to help him hold position…

GANG CLUBHOUSE – Galahs who like the ‘help’ pick up any seeds from hay bales used by the horses, retreat to this high perch on a foggy morning in April.

POINTY PERCH –  as my family was putting about in the dingy in late December, I waited on shore … and had a little winged friend keep me company!  Dragonflies are tricky to photograph, they are rarely still and test your focussing skills to the max.  Love how he’s clinging to the front barb with four feet!

DRAGON WARRIOR – the same dragonfly (I think) as photographed above, from a different angle, showing the ragged gauze of his battered wings. Must’ve been quite an old warrior!

Please make your selection of your favourite three in the poll below… once you have voted the results will automatically show.  Remember one vote for each ip address (feel free to vote again elsewhere!).
