Equine Therapy…

Things have been settling down a little here, now that the school year is back in full swing…

Which is more peaceful for Mamas in the middle of the day, but also a little TOO quiet sometimes. (Luckily I have mountains of washing and book work to attend to!)

There is a new ritual begun which I just adore…

Each afternoon, after afternoon tea and homework and puppy-play and other essential tasks are taken care of…

This happens…

itunes_9766 eDash spends time with iTunes, our divine little filly out of Holly.

itunes_9784 eShe loves the attention and is quite cheeky, pushing the envelope as far as she can.  (I think she thinks Dash’s hair is hay here!)

itunes_9796 e

That’s it, silly!

itunes_9725 e

She isn’t scared of humans at all (after all, we were there from the very beginning for her)…

itunes_9747 e

But she has plenty of spunk, and likes to assert her personality quite regularly.

itunes_9793 eThere is that amazing blue/wall eye.  She has a tiny trickle of roan hair running down from it, can you see?

iTunes_9830 eIt’s not only Dash who spends time with her, as her Mama has her afternoon feed… Lachy (the jackaroo) also loves her.

itunes_9765 eAnd my big tough husband?  Putty, my friends.  Look at him letting her nibble his fingers…

itunes_9804 eHe loves nothing more than when she lets him drape his arms around her…

itunes_9821 eAnd when she finally relaxes and leans against him.  Pretty sweet.

And while I am sure that all this handling is doing iTunes the world of good, I reckon it’s also one of the best ways for humans to finish off a day too.

How ’bout you?

Do you have the equivalent of Equine Therapy at your place?

:-)

  2. That’s got to be the very best way to train a pony. “Breaking” a horse is cruel and so unnecessary in most cases. Itunes is wonderful and so is the relationship developing between her and her family.

  7. Oh such beautiful pictures! Our neighbors had a filly, the only time I have seen a baby horse less than one day old. She was delightful, and when I went through the fence to visit my friend, Molly would trot up behind and nibble my hair or give me a big shove in the back with her nose. My personal ‘equine’ therapy is my dogs. One, Frank, is very old and is just delighted to see me, no matter I just saw him a minute or two before. And Rosy is only 4, and has the softest ears at the end of the day.

  10. Feeding pony’s and swimming dogs in the dam :) That’s how our day ends.

  11. The foal is certainly growing up and sure doesn’t mind the loving care of your family members! A real smocher, eh?
How is the other mare fairing after the loss of her foal? Will you be re-breeding her this year?
Any worthwhile rain in your neck of the woods? Still, this strange February weather here in BNE – cool??? Yet Melbourne and Adelaide swelter, maybe Australia has turned upside down??

  12. I am blessed with a kitty who meows to be snuggled and a baby that yearns to be held all day long so the love flows here and it’s magnificent to have it from both of them.

Your pony pics are priceless. Also thanks for linking to Fleur’s blog; I have enjoyed every post so far.
