Spud appendages…

This is kinda like wordless Wednesday. But I don’t do wordless very often. Unless wisdom teeth removal or throat surgery is involved. So it’s less-words-than-usual Wednesday.
My son has a book called “The Potato People” (by Pamela Allen) which he loves. It’s about a grandma and her grandson who make little pretend people out of potatoes – its also about loneliness and relationships and others things that go completely over the heads of five-year-old boys. To him it’s about potatoes with stick arms and legs and lots of imagination.
The other day (when I refused to turn on the TV or playstation) he got inspired and disappeared with his sister into the pantry. The excited pair reappeared with an armfuls of potatoes. I made them put all but two back (I cannot afford to run out of spuds – the local store is almost 50km away!). Dash demanded some toothpicks. With dire warnings about what sharps sticks can do to eyes, I doled out a few and then went and did the folding.
And this is what I was called back to after about 20 minutes…

Meet the newest addition to Granite Glens livestock – the potato cows…

They can be a bit fiesty, these potato cows, so good fences are needed to keep them calm enough to pose for a photo opportunity. I am not sure why TLW’s cow has an extra leg coming from her shoulder. I am informed it is not so much a potato cow, as a potato monster.

Oh. OK.

Dash drafts off his potato cow for special attention by his Nikon-wielding Mum.

Steady there girl!Do you love mine Mum?
Of course I do – you have a great imagination darling…

It’s a really wonderful potato cow Dash.

Oh Mum, it’s not a cow!

Oh, sorry, what is it then?

It’s a bull, silly!

Can’t you see?

Oh…

I’ve said it before: Country kids are such practical, earthy little creatures!

Keep your eye on the details and have a great day, full of unexpected laughs..

My boss tells the story of a farm girl who drew a picture of two of their horses, procreating. She was a good artist. She used lots of details. The teacher, being the excitable sort, contacted the parents right away. They were so matter of fact about the situation that the teacher just changed the subject in embarrassment.

That’s so funny! He’s a smart cookie with the details. And I love the picture near the end, with Dash eye-level with the potato bull. Great shots!

LOL!! That is so funny!! I love it, a bull!! He is a very clever boy! My two year old will be playing with horses and one will be the mommy and one will be the baby and he will have the baby sucking milk! Gotta love country kids!!

Hilarious. My daughter draws horses with udders. She says it’s not as gross as drawing a horse with “boy parts.” LOL.
