Horses

Equine addition to GG

When I was young (oh, so long ago!) I was horse-mad. I loved horses over toys and dolls and almost anything else. Did you ever see Thelwell cartoons? They depicted gorgeous, fat, naughty little Shetland ponies and I adored them… I wanted “tack” with an English riding saddle (with no knee pads) and a pony rug and ribbons for my pony’s mane… I was rewarded with a black Shetland called Dollar who fitted the bill – a little round black pony who was naughty and cute and kept my parents well and truly on their toes. He also confirmed my love of horses.
My Thelwell addiction went into hibernation during my ‘city years’ – and then I came home (unable to ride much myself anymore) to find myself amongst the smell of horses, with my own children ready to ride, and flashing back to my Thelwell days…
My own family’s pony experiences so far mixed. As you know, we were a bit shaken after the tragic loss of Bullseye a little while ago. But after contemplating things long and hard, we have taken the bull by the horns (so to speak) again, and brought a new pony into our family.
So Pagi (my Dad), Dash and I drove to three and a half hours south this week to rendezvous with a couple from southern Queensland who were reluctantly selling a Shetland their kids had grown out of… and we found this little fella waiting for us..

Oh. My. Goodness.

It was love at first sight.

Hello little horse, my name is Dash…

Well hello Dash – I am Rob Roy. And I like to eat. And get cuddles.

I am so hoping our hearts won’t get broken again – but you cannot really arm yourself when you see sights like this… animals and kids. Lord help me. Wish us luck… and lots of Thelwell moments!

(Brace yourself for plenty more Rob Roy pics, real soon)

Excellent pics of horse and child! Dash does look like a regal lad–princely, even. (IS that how you spell it?!!) Why is it horses are so easy to love–after children, of course!

Wonderous indeed… and Thelwell-ish more than you can imagine! Rob Roy could soon become the major character in the Granite Glen story (and goodness knows, the place is already bursting at the seams with characters!).

My God. Talk about a melting moment!
Hope the love affair continues for many years.
Horses rule. Especially cheeky, fat ones.
