It’s a Boy! (and a girl and a boy)

I hope you have already voted in my very first poll ever – because TIME’s UP folks!

In the wee hours of last night, in the corner of a very messy room in our laundry, some babies arrived. A little black boy, and two little smoky grey babies (a boy and a girl).

They look a little like rats (which, as you may already know, I am not fond of) … but they belong to one very proud Mama.

CONGRATULATIONS CRUEL!

So if you voted for 1-5 puppies in the poll, you are the winners (only three of you clever psychic things chose this option). You can count them for yourselves in this pic… the little smokey fella is especially shy (or asleep under mum’s hind leg!).

Unfortunately I have no prizes to hand out… you just have to wander around enjoying that warm inner glow you get from being right. I do it all the time… it’s an art form.

We knew something was afoot when she looked at her dinner bowl last night and turned around and headed back into her chosen hidey hole. Refusing food is unheard of – at least by working dogs at Granite Glen. They have the uncanny ability to inhale food like vaccuum cleaners.

Last night the weather turned cool – heading to around 10 degrees (C) for the first time this year. But we knew our expectant mother had chosen her den well…

Cruel had set up camp in a lovely warm private spot to have her babies.
I am donating the pillow and blanket she snuggled (and pupped) on to the pups. I don’t think I want it back again. (No offence Cruel!). Eu d’Doggue just ain’t my chosen scent.
But something interesting has happened to Cruel…aside from having three little rats attached to her belly.

She has changed personality overnight… once a shy, submissive dog …
She is now one protective bitch (and don’t wag your finger at me, I’m allowed to say that!)
Note the change in the position of her ears …

That expression, as I take photos of her little family, says loud and clear:
You can look but you can’t touch, human!
I’m a Mama and don’t you forget it!
But she is one loving Mum, as she licks and nuzzles this little girl back into position.

They still look like little rats, but if I squint and look through a mother’s eyes, I am starting to see the “cute” factor…

….
Cruel of course, doesn’t really give a rats what I think…
And that’s the way it should be.

congratulations to cruel and to you for having new puppies to train. they are cute and don’t look the least like rats. rats have those ugly bald tail things and make me shudder. the puppies make me go “ahhhh!”

  • Mama DB

I have to admit, I like the rats at pet stores. Just not the disease infested ones running around back alleyways and such.

Congrats to the mommy! They are cute.

    Puppies!!! Oh the cuteness!!
    Way to go, Cruel 🙂
I can’t wait to hear the stories and see the pics as they get bigger.

  • debby

I imagine that TLW and Dash are over the moon!

And which bundle of cuteness will Jeanie and Salina pick? You should do a poll on that, BB.

  • jeanie

ha ha – if ‘Salina gets one of them, then I can assure you that the extended family will have to provide quarters!

Very gorgeous – and I love being right!

Update for y’all … the triplets are doing fine and Mama hasn’t moved from their side all day. She has allowed SSB to touch the little ones, and TLW is desperately trying to NOT touch them (and succeeding most of the time).

Jeanie, you are in no danger of getting a kelpie pup – even I am not that cruel (get it!?).

Who else got it right in the poll (Jeanie thinks she is fey… blinkin’ psychic!).

    🙂

Oooooh, how sweet! I love that little smokey one. Are you keeping any of the puppies?

And I share your feelings about rats, or in my case, gray squirrels, which are just rats in fancy coats.

  • Andrea

Oh they are cute!! I love the two pictures the one of her looking so shy and then her motherly stay back look!! LOL!! I was wrong, I was with Dash, really hoping for six!!

Beautiful litter Cruel, but I have to commment on the size, I’ve delivered more than that at one shot. (Me, not one of the dogs.)Maybe it’s your first shot at motherhood?

Really, they are wonderful. I had our ACD fixed BP. I’m jealous of the puppy breathe to come.

BB – What kind of dog is Cruel? With her ears up, she looks almost vulpine. The office staff wants to know if she’s part dingo or is this some breed of Australian working dog?

PS: Looking at the pictures again, I’ve got puppy fever. They really are dear!

  • Bush Babe (of Granite Glen)

I think Cruel is a Kelpie with a little Border Collie thrown in for good measure (and colouring). Kelpies are working cattle dogs here in Oz (are they used in America too?). You can see the kelpie markings on the pups faces if you look closely… sorta white masks.

Remmudamom, I was surprised that there were only three in the litter – there are usually more. But I’m happy there are only two to find homes for. I am concerned about you though – have you had quads? Or am I reading you wrong??

    I wondered about Remudamom too.

Okay. Kelpie. I was trying to figure THAT comment out. I thought it was an Irish myth about mermaids. I didn’t get it. I thought you hinting at strange powers of canine transmogrification, which sounded darned interesting. I figured you’d get to an explanation in a later post. I’m patient like that.

Go back to sleep, you and your heaving stomach. You’ll surely feel better when you wake up.

they are so cute – congratulations Cruel on your adorable babies – oops puppies.
Well captured expressions and captions. AAWWW

Okay, I counted wrong. I read that she had two, not three. Must not have had enough coffee.

But I did have triplets. And when they were born our oldest was six, and little sister was 18 months. So I had four in diapers, four bottles, four high chairs, four baby beds, four…….well, you get it.

And thank goodness I had dh and big brother to help.

    Triplets. Gosh. I can’t imagine.

I owe you an apology BB. I thought Irish mermaids were kelpies. So the mythical water horses were interesting reading. As you said, ‘Live and learn’.

Holy Cow Remudamom… triplets!!! Dear Lord woman, I shall have to come over and read that blog of yours a bit better… three is small for a litter but really perfect for our situation. We will give these babies (or two of them anyway) to good homes. Did you ever feel like doing that?? Just askin’…

They are so darling! Love how Cruel has changed too, that makes me smile. Funny how becoming a Mama changes a person (or dog. Dogs are people too)
