The ‘Old Stuff’ disease

I love old stuff.
You may have noticed.

I cannot NOT photograph it.
It’s a sickness.
When I started this little blog, it was supposed to be a spot to file my photos of kids and lifestyle. Somewhere to put the gazillion images I shoot in my day-to-day life.
But somehow it has instead prompted me to take MORE photos.
More photos of people.
More photos of animals.
More photos of trees (for heaven’s sake).
And more photos of Old Stuff.
Like at the Granite Glen Hilton recently.
Where this caught my eye.

Don’t ask me why…
Something about the peeling paint,
the exposed wiring,
the haphazard angle of the actual switch…

Am I insane for being so intrigued by the details of Mother Time?

Is there a name for such an illness?

Help!!

Um. No. You are NOT insane. It is not an illness. I’m saying this quite firmly. Mostly because if it be insanity, if it is an illness, well, then crap! I’ve got it too. And I’m perfectly normal. Isn’t that completely obvious?

No, you’re not insane, you’re quite normal.
It’s the Others who don’t notice Time’s Onward March who are to be a little feared….*manical laughter* 😉

OH thank goodness… I am in illustrious company then!!! You know the weird thing is that I don’t actually like antiques so much in my home… but when it’s out there, somewhere else, well… it’s fodder for my lens. It’s an itch I have to scratch.

When I see stuff like your light switch, for instance, the first thing that comes to my mind is: I wonder who installed this? That is an old, old switch, from the earliest days of electrified houses. The man’s knowledge would have been considered quite marvelous, and can you imagine when it was done, the novelty of it? The first night that everyone stopped what they were doing for turning on the light? This was an event all those years ago, however ordinary it seems now. It’s a story.

Old, rusting, and decaying things are often more interesting than they were when they were new. I can’t explain it, but I think I have your illness too.

I am so beside you on that one. I love old things and photograph them all the time. I really should blog them more often…

PS _ Is it just me or are these word verifications thingies getting frustratingly LONG of late?
