Ballet Burf-day

Violet has had a rather good start to the holidays.
Not only did Santa dutifully roll up last week at her Kindy to distribute the first batch of Christmas gifts… (and while we are at it, exactly HOW LONG does Christmas officially go for these days?)… but he also showed at Dash’s school break-up with a sackful of loot!
And then
it was BIRTHDAY TIME!
Yes indeed.
About four years and nine months ago, a couple who clearly cannot do any kind of math at all decided to work on Baby Number Two.
And voila…. Violet!

Our almost-Christmas baby.
(Note the grubby esky in the background- proof this is indeed a real bush kitchen!)

Poor darlin’ is already getting used to sharing her “burf-day” with her parents’ Christmas gatherings. Not that she seems to mind, really.
Especially when it involves lots of kids, a big ol’ pool, cake and pressies. Because one can NEVER have too many gifts. Especially when they have something to do with DANCING. Or BARBIE DOLLS. Or NEW TOGS (that will be swimmers to non-Queenslanders!).

You know Violet, if your mother was actually on the ball, she would have managed to get the camera frame around the FOUR fingers held aloft to indicate the REAL reason everyone was gathered at Granite Glen on the weekend. Because they all needed reminding (regularly). But sadly Violet, your mother wasn’t with it at all. It may have had something to do with wondering how to feed 30 people an impromtu evening meal?
A great time was had by all (I think). Lots of swims were had. Lots of presents unwrapped. Lots of laughter shared. Lots of food inhaled. And the odd beer and chardonnay mysteriously disappeared as well.
Today we had a recovery swim. As you do.
Note the changed colour of the pool. Not sure what all those visitors did to the water (don’t answer that) but I’m calling on Sven (my non-existant pool boy) to get cracking with the chlorine already!

Oh, and anyone still having trouble seeing the Incredibles character in my daughter?
Can someone say “fringe”?
Definitely a Violet look, methinks!
Anway, wishing my darling ‘little woman’ with the fearsome dimples
A very happy FIFTH year…

My baby is growing up before my very eyes. In just another 20 or 30 (or, if Mr Incredible has anything to day about it 50) years, she may be even ready to date.

Help!!

Esky? Eskimo Cooler? Did I guess right? Another Ozism.

Oh, my. Can you hear my heart breaking from where you sit? The photo of your little one in her goggles (second from the bottom) reminds me so much of my Eldest. I know it’s a cliche, but honestly, it really does feel like just yesterday when she was that age, and now she’s 22 and coming home from her last year at Uni.

That last photo is incredible. Love the angle, the light, the expression, the way it’s cropped. PERFECT.

(I’m hesitate to even tell you what my word ver is. I swear I’m not making this up.)

What a beautiful girl and a wonderful party to celebrate.

I’m also a December birthday, but when I celebrate it’s always freezing cold with 3 feet of snow on the ground. That pool party looks like great birthday fun!

    Your family is beautifull!

    Happy 5 V.

Bush Babe, you and PW better make sure your 4 y.o.’s never meet down the way… That would be dimple disaster and spectacularly beautiful eyes to behold. What a pair those two would make!!

Great post and happy burf-day Miss Violet.

CJS – I know! She’s breaking them already… mostly her Mum and Dad’s!

Pam – I guess that’s what esky stands for, they have always just been referred to as eskies (brand name for this kind of cooler). I know about the ‘growing up in a flash’ thing – why do you think I am doing this blog? To remind me constantly of the joy (and levity) of this part of their lives!!!! I dread adolescence…

    Gem – yup. Ditto!

Deb – thanks for “not” telling me! Heh.

Portia – warps my mind thinking of your cold weather… stinking hot here! Pools are essential!

Red – thanks love. They are beautiful to me.

Kate – ten years? She’ll be locked in her room that decade I think!!

Helen – welcome!!! THanks for dropping over… and yes. The thought has crossed my mind. It’ll never happen. Mr Incredible is already on the warpath for young men looking too long! let alone Americans… Tee Hee.

Happy Birthday Violet!! I swear you have the most beautiful children on earth!! You definitely capture them at their most perfect points! I don’t envy you keeping the boyfriends/girlfriends at bay until the “proper” time!!!

What a great birthday Violet had! 🙂 Five is such a great year. I teach 4 and 5 year olds. They are fun! So full of discovery and have a growing independence, but they still want to be your little baby! 😉
I like your girl’s nickname. It’s was my grandmother’s name!

WF – oh darl. You are welcome here at Granite Glen anytime with words like those. Clearly I am equally blinded!!

PG – didn’t know you were a teacher too! Love Violet as a name… very olde worlde.

Happy belated birthday to your little woman! Love those dimples!

December birthdays are difficult to plan parties for. This year Na (Dec. 14th b-day) will have a sleepover party in January. There was just too much to squeeze into December this year with her big brother graduating from boot camp on the 12th and our family and her friends’ families all having their holiday parties and vacation plans. We won’t be swimming here though! That’s for the July birthday crowd.
