Cutestuff # 1: colt handling

Here is Cutestuff #1, born just hours earlier than his chestnut half-sister,
in his inaugural hands-on encounter with Mr I.
Firstly, Mum (Jill, Mr I’s main mustering mare until she got pregnant) was caught and placed in the small ‘vee’ yard near the handling area.
Then it was time to get up close and personal with CS1.
Then it was time to get up close and personal with CS1.
Perhaps it’s because he is a boy, and all that testosterone makes him a little bit fiesty…
… but things were a little more physical than with CS2.He’s very strong, and bucked against Mr I’s restraining arms.
Apparently his little heart was beating pretty fast too!
(I could make a bad pun about knowing how he feels, but that would be tacky! )

Mr I checked for soundness, feeling over the little bay colt’s joints too…
And his strong little back and rounded little rump..
His heart rate is easing a little now…

He’s quite curious now… investigating these new beings in his personal space…

Even the little pink beings…(although he remained a bit unsure about this one!)
While he was skittish with the kids, I think it’s really important they are introduced early – both for the kids and the foals! Who knows? Violet may well be the one riding him most in years to come…
Even if the anticipation of this weighs heavy on your mind CS1, go forth, knowing you passed your first human handling hurdle with flying colours!

He is such a gorgeous, rich color (American version of colour)! And I can definitely see why he calmed down in Mr. I’s capable hands – oops, sorry, not going to say any more! I’ve ridden horses over the years, but I don’t remember ever being around a foal. What wonderful muzzles, eyes, ears, just everything!

My favorite shot is the last one, his white marking stands out in such contrast! I just can’t get enough of horses…between you and P-Dub, I’m thinking I should turn my hubby into a cowboy and move to the country!!!

He is a beauty for sure. Good for him doing so well. I like a horse with a bit of spunk to them. Nice to see he had that but kept a level head.

He’s gorgeous! I’m in love. I’m going to go with you on the hormones. The two foals next door are boy and girl and they are so different. He is a total spitfire (brat in other words) and she is sweet, calm and just wants to be rubbed. It’s too funny. i was waiting with bated breath for CS1’s turn, thanks!!!!

I’m not a horse person, but these little foals make me all maternal anyway. He’s got such ‘old’ eyes, doesn’t he, as if an old horse hides beneath that coltish exterior. Do you suppose…

What a hansome colt. I am such a sucker for bays!! It’s really interesting how different horses can be, even tough they have the same dad. But I guess that is how it works!!

What a cute little guy. I have a friend that used to raise horses and I’d go visit to see the new babies and the little mister’s were way more feisty than the fillies. That last photo is a beaut. You can see the little guy smelling the sweat on Mr. I and relaxing under his touch… and I won’t even make a comparison to a certain Bush Babe.
