The Bush

Game for anything…

I adore tennis… love watching it anyway!
My favourite players were Mats Wilander (yummy cool Swede), Evonne Goolagong (met her, just divine!) and Ken Rosewall (saw him play in our local town when I was little… awesome!). These days, I barrack for Kim Clijsters (except when she is playing an Aussie) and Roger Federer (ditto).
Roger is just gorgeous – a pretty good sport, insanely talented… and the fact he cried when he met our own crusty tennis legend Rod Laver just sealed it for me. He’s a keeper. A sook, sure, but definitely a keeper! Of course, being an Aussie also means I like seeing an outsider get up sometimes too. We are weird like that… we love a dark horse.
An underdog.
(Been a little while since M. Federer has been one of those…)
Anyhoo…
Dash started taking tennis lessons this term.
He likes cricket and his hand-eye coordination is reasonable.
And he nagged me, for months, so I finally gave in and gave him a term’s trial at the sport.
Our husband-and-wife team of coaches has taught generations of tennis players in the district.
They live for tennis – our tiny shopless hamlet where Dash’s school is boasts (are you ready for it) FIVE tennis courts. About one court for every two residents. I kid you not.
So while I wallow in the fabulous victory of Super Mum Ms Clijsters, and quietly ‘root’ (as you Americans so charmingly put it) for Monseir Federer in the US Open finals, I leave you with images of my little man whacking the bejeezus out of a tethered tennis ball with Mr D.
Enjoy!

Fun aside:
Check out those most Aussie of bush structures belonging to a quaint little timber church in the background… a dunny and a corrugated iron tank! Ah, the romance of the bush!
Oh…
and GO ROGER!
(I’ll go for the underdog NEXT time)
PS Gymkhana pics coming… and a very tall tale to go with!

OK, BB, once again you have me flummuxed. OK, so we root for the home team! But sook? All I could think of was Sookie Stackhouse, that amazing waitress who falls in love with vampires! Then I checked out the internet – does that mean a crybaby?!! Oh, and you use the first name of our president to mean? You follow, hunger for, admire? I love learning from you! Oh, yes, what is a dunny? I would have thought slang for dungeon… 🙂 Help me!!

And I almost forgot the most important thing – Dash is amazing! Is there nothing that little man can do? Your kids must have a million fans out here in the world.

    Hugs,
    Nancy

Hey BB, are you old enough to remember an Aussie tennis player before Kenny Rosewall's time? A Mervyn Rose? Supposed to be meeting him this arvo, at Ms 10's tennis lesson. He lives in Coffs, is about 78 yrs old now, but I bet he can still thump a tennis ball. (Embarrassingly this is also the afternoon – every second week – that I share a private lesson with Ms 10, before her main lesson.)

Sorry! I digress! Gorgeous pics – and I do love the dunny and raintank in the background. Just warn Mom L not to "root" if she comes to Australia, because it will be *cough, cough* misunderstood!

Traceelements – I'll be sure to get a language lesson before I visit beautiful Australia, which I certainly hope to do one day! I got quite a few tips on what not to say ("cough, cough"!!) before making a trip to England several years ago!!

    LOL
    Love Dash's concentration 🙂
Every tiny speck of any kind of settlement in the middle of nowhere has tennis courts to rival Rod Laver Arena here in Melb, sometimes it's the only indication there was once a town in the vicinity!

LOL, Mom L. No apology necessary, we all just think it's extremely funny! And with an American accent, you'd actually get away with it with only a few jokes made at your expense! We love to stir. Don't we BushBabe?!
