What just happened?

It seems like only yesterday,
I gave birth to the sweetest little cherub of a girl…

My Little Woman of the Fearsome Dimples
And yet today
Just a day later in my mind, yet almost five years on…
She happily waved me goodbye,
(despite an early wobble of the “I want to be with youuuuu“s)
with her hair in short braids,
blue uniform dress swinging on her knees,
and brown sandals carefully buckled into place,
her pre-prep backpack
(or ‘pack-pack’ as she would say)
almost dwarfing her. schoolkids_1648 e
Her big brother seems suddenly BIGGER.
With a little sister to take care of,
away from Mummy and Daddy…

And I feel a little part of me driving off
in the little white schoolbus.
My kids.
My SCHOOL kids.
Can someone please tell me what happened to this pair?cuddles crop

God but I love those hats!

I have one who has graduated and two IN university. What the — ? How did the heck did THAT happen?!

And while we're on the subject, I had my first child when I was seven. That's my story, and I'm not backing down.

Oh, they are so cute they take my breath away. And her big brother DOES look bigger. What a day! They are just too darling in their school clothes. I love it!!

that's one of the painful things about kids, they grow up. boy is but a baby in my mind but in reality he's a 6'2" hulking teenager of 17. *sigh* though i don't miss the diapers, being able to go back in time and hold his teeny body in my arms again would be something i'd love to do.

  • Debby

Oh my. You 'got' me too. They're growing up BB. And if the size of Dash's feet are any indication, it looks like that boy still has a lot of growing left. Your children are adorable. Then. Now. Waaaaaaaay down the road.

I don't know which are more precious… the "Then" pictures or the "now" pics!

They do grow up fast. Our oldest will be 30 on her next bday and the other two are in college.

I can't believe just in the time I have been following your blog how much they've grown!! Those backpacks are as big as they are!!

  • Kate

They are both so darling! That first picture is so precious, my uterus is screaming at me! 🙂

Those back packs are huge! I love em. So darn cute. And Dash does suddenly look more grow up and very ready to take care of his baby sis.

Kate – heh. That first photo does terrible things to me too! I feel your pain…

Wrensong Farm – I KNOW… I look at those early pics and wonder what the heck happened… where it the Time Machine?

Kelly – NO WAY!!! That will be me, tomorrow…

Mum L – does Diane know you call her a pumpkin? Heh.

RootieToot – possibly. Cept my Little Woman hides from no-one. No where. No how!

    Rhubarb – yes.

Debby – oh Lord yes. The Feet. He'll be a great swimmer if nothing else!!!

DW – Holy Moly – 6'2"!!??? Does 'cause I said so' have any meaning any more??

    Trish and Mikey – thanks…

Jeanie – if I can't get you, who can I? Got myself pretty bad too!!

Novel Woman – the hats? Really? It's the Aussie sun – it's fierce and all schoolkids have hats like that, or they'd all end up crispy. True story.

    🙂
    BB
