Giving Thanks…

Short and sweet tonight as I pack for a few days away…
during my absence from Granite Glen,
I will share some images of the amazing rain
we have wallowed in over the last couple of days.
I will (of course) be checking in while I am gone.
(Don’t come between me and my internet connection!)
.
Here’s a teaser of what’s been bringing smiles to our dials round here …rain_0057

The bureau is hedging their bets on some more clouds headed this way…rain_0054

Keep it coming, Huey!

What I would NOT do for a macro lense.*sigh*

“I will not be greedy, I will not be greedy…”

OK. Let’s make this the first BB Weather Watch post of 2010

Forecasts and reports from your corner of the world,

please Ladies and Gentlemen.

(I can say that now – look at those boys joining my posse!

Ye-hah!!)

Here in my little corner of the world we are recovering after recieving +50cm of snow… probably the biggest storm of our winter, unfortunately there were two casualties, 45,000 without power, and 500 evacuated due to flooding.

But today the forecast is cloudy, high of -5C, no snow in sight.

    From snowy Maine –
    High today 32 F
    Low – 15 F

It's been downright balmy….sunshine and blue skies after a foot of snow this past weekend. More fertilizer for our soil. We will take it gladly!
A cool down for the weekend, highs in the 20's, low's is the single digits. Brrrrrrrrr

Hope the rain keeps coming your way!

In southcentral Kansas there is still some thin, patchy snow on the ground. I don't know the temperature, but it's dang cold. Dh drove the kids to school this morning and is lighting a fire in the woodstove right now. Oldest dd is feeding the animals and I am staying inside with my coffee and computer.

I'm glad to hear y'all are getting the rain you need. Is that purslane in the bottom picture? I've heard that people raise it as a food crop in some places. Do you eat it there? Here it is just a weed, but I have tasted it, and it isn't bad.

    Coming in from Austin, TX
    High today 51* and Sunny
    Low-38*

Changing quickly by Thursday to temperatures we don't normally get.
    High 32* windy, and cloudy.
    Lows in the teens.

We were in a drought here in Texas for 2 years, so I know the joy of when it finally rains. Your pics are beautiful, even without an official macro lens.

It dipped below zero here in the Missouri Ozarks last night. The snow is still on the ground from three or four days ago–which is just unheard of here. We are expecting more snow and more frigid temperatures today and tomorrow.

  • Lorac

Great that you are getting the much needed rain! Here in Georgetown, Ontario, Canada we have had snow flurries for the last couple of days and the temperatures have been -20C/-3F. We are going to warm up today to -8C/17F and it is still snowing.

You did wonderfully without that macro. But, because you would a tool with such skill—may the rain gods let a macro lens fall gently into your hands.

From Chadds Ford, PA, high 30 (or so they say. I don't believe a word of it). Low 20. Gray, gray skies. Arizona sounds nice!

  • Wendy

Some rain here too in the Caboolture Quarter, SE Qld. Occasional showers, I think 90mm over the last few days. Pleasantly mild, temptingly grey skies and only minor humidity, I'm guessing about 24 deg.C – an overall pleasant situation!
Waving hi BB – sorry to hear your sad news, we've been away a bit.

  • Jayne

Top of 22C low tonight of 11C.
Partly cloudy. Winds south to southwesterly 10 to 20 km/h this morning but averaging up to 35 km/h by late afternoon.

Love the photos, those raindrops add so much beauty 😉

hill country along the valley of the great Ohio River, USA.
Outside my big kitchen window: 20F, 4"+ of fresh snow. Just a really grand day.
May the thrill of January be with you. – Bill

I am very glad to see the rain. And the green. Oh. The green… Everything is white here. It is snowing still, probably 14 inches on the ground. Relatively warm. 19 degrees (-7 C) We've been doing a lot of shovelling. Should have hooked up the plow…

I haven't heard the forecast for the Southern Downs, but I can tell you it is steamy and warmer that the pleasant summer weather we've been getting.

And that sun (that has been hiding for the last week) is just reminding us that it can BITE!

Go for the micro lens, you won`t likely regret it. If your body will use the earlier Micro-Nikkor 55/2.8 AIS, they can be had very reasonable. Image quality is excellant! A late production one is best, as the older it is, the more likely it is to suffer from stiff focusing and oil on the diaphragm blades. That being said, I`ve been using these lenses for a long time, and they are among the best. If you`re a auto-focus kinda` girl, the new micros are nice, but as you infer, pricey!

It's WARM here in SW Iowa: 12 degrees F!!! Was -18 yesterday at this time. Snow piled everywhere from the blizzard before Christmas, and another 3-4" last night. Light snow falling now. Perfect day to go nowhere!

Here in western Washington state we've been having some of what you're having but instead of those amazing greens everything is brown….as in MUD. Today is actually dry with some blue sky…looking forward to getting outside.
