Gourmet, baby!
We treated the kids to a meal ‘out’ in the city while we were visiting Brisbane last weekend. It’s always a challenge to find something Violet will actually eat (for some reason Weet Bix are not offered in top restaurants just yet). Luckily the place we chose – which was classy but relaxed – was flexible about their menu…
Spaghetti Napolese… whew! She enjoyed… As you can tell by the state of that napkin…
And as for Dash (who does eat almost anything) – he took on the gourmet challenge of mixing chips and tomoto sauce (that’s ‘fries and ketchup’ to you Yanks), and chips and aoli…
Classy. But ‘quite yummy’ according to his review…
And as for me…
Well, yes. Chardonnay. Just a little glass. And a fresh seafood basket – I realise it’s not gourmet, but hey, it’s the menu item we don’t see much of living three hours from the coast! Plus I figured I’d keep my kids company in the ‘less than polished‘ department. Heh.

I haven’t had too man interesting meals of late, but plan on aking myself out to lunch tomorrow for the best BLT panini in Brisbane.

It would have to be the proper sit down meal Feral kiddo and I enjoyed at the Welcome Stranger Cafe in Dunolly, old school grub that was yummo, stuck to your ribs and left you feeling like you had a good feed 😉

Watermelon. I know it’s not gourmet, and it is hardly ever a meal, but it was so hot and humid here that turning on the stove was unthinkable, and we decided that we weren’t hungry anyway. So we had ice cold watermelon for supper. It tasted so goooooooood.

We have spag-bol for dinner last night. J makes the most amazing mince sauce-recipe thing. I love it. It’s a good thing he makes small portions otherwise I would eat the whole pot!!
This weekend though we are going through to the Medium City and there will be sushi and tempura prawns. I can feel it.

A seafood dinner. Starter was an oyster on the half shell sampler (six from various regions), followed by lobster bisque, then a lovely scallop dish with ginger, and a creme brule for dessert.
Oh my it was good!

My problem is I’ve had TOO MANY good things lately!! It’s why I’m now trying to rein in my eating for awhile! I did have a post earlier in the week sharing some Butterfinger Ice Cream we made. Yummy!

Seafood! Seafood! Seafood! even if it’s some of that poor shrimp that may or may not have been swimming in crude oil in The Gulf. Except oysters. Sorry. Right now I’m trying to eat Hot and Sour Chinese soup without spilling it on the keyboard. Not doing well.
And what is aoli? Looks like the ubiquitous Ranch Dressing of the U.S.
