The Costumes
So anyway, after my FAIL as a flash photographer last night as our little school performed on stage for the local Lions Concert fundraiser, I DID manage to get my offspring to stay sill enough (just barely) for a couple of snaps to show their costumes.
For those who are wondering, the play was about a circus – I am afraid I do not know the proper name of it – where everything went a little bit wrong. The ringmaster was chased by the lion, the trick rip-sticker (?) came a ‘gutser’ and all the ‘animals’ were a tad out of control – there were tigers and monkeys and elephants (mostly preppies) who vastly enjoyed their roles. A little black pony in particular cantered and frolicked her little heart out…
She threw off her boots and slid about the timber floors in the supper room as soon as the school were done with their act. I managed to hush her for about 20 seconds for these shots…
I love the hands in this pose – do all little girls tuck their wrists over when they play horsies?
Cracks me up.
Violet adores this whole costume (mostly hand-made by Daddy) and is wearing it again this morning…
Dash played the ‘Lazy Janitor’ who reluctantly swept up between each circus ‘act’ … he was not sure about his role initially, but drew lots of laughs with each foot-dragging walk across the stage.
This shot was also taken after the curtain fell – he’s a little more ‘The Boy from Oz’ than the ‘Lazy Janitor’ here. Oh, how he loved that applause.
(Aside: do you KNOW how hard it is to find kids overalls in a size 8 in Australia? Not even in op shops could I track one down! This belonged to a neighbour who might be lucky to get it back – my son has found pants he doesn’t have to hitch up!)
Lastly, because I had to include a shot with Violet’s new flashing-lights boots (or she would never forgive me) …
I wonder how long papier mache horse heads last?
And I wonder is she is going to try and bath in it?
Or ride a Lacey at Pony Club, dressed as a horse?
I suspect we are about to find out…

I love the costumes; took me back to my kids’ program days (and Halloween too) and how much fun we had putting the costumes together.

Hard to find overalls? LOL Here in Tennessee you can find overalls for babes a few months old (seriously…my 2 month old nephew has a pair) all the way up to super sized. For men, women and children!
We love our overalls in The South!

And PS, what in the world is a trick rip sticker, and while we’re on it, what is a gutser?

A ripstik is this thing: http://www.ripstik.com/us/photos/ (all the kids ride ’em instead of skateboards now)
A ‘gutser’ is a bad fall.
I KNEW someone would eventually ask!!

Yep – Debbie beat me to the questions! Thanks for explaining so quickly, BB. The kids are, as always, adorable – I just hope the horse head doesn’t end up in your bed one morning!!
