MIA

Sorry I have been missing in action these last couple of weeks… I know it’s kinda unheard of, but my life seems to be completely taking over my blogging!  (I am expecting ZERO sympathy here).

For the record I have had four sets of visitors these school holidays, as well as two lots of editorial deadlines, one advertising deadline, one overnight visit to Bundaberg and several cattle buyer visits during these school holidays.  And I have another batch of visitors, one photo shoot, and another return trip to the Big Town before the school break ends.  I shall need a holiday to recover from our holidays…

It has been a wonderful fortnight – we have enjoyed some great rain, welcomed some amazing new people into our lives, saw old ones return home, cheered some of those already in our lives onto victory in a big rowing regatta, gathered numerous old friends (and their offspring) here at Granite Glen and basically ate far too much food. (Well everyone else did – I cannot for reasons explained here.  But I enjoyed cooking it all up and sharing it with some fabulous people).

I also have some exciting news to share with y’all real soon, but in the meantime I shall share a couple of very quick snaps.  They are utterly random and in no particular order…

My son. Is. A. Dag.

This shot shows so many broken rules (equitation-ally and sartorially) that I don’t even know where to begin.  And I just love that he couldn’t care less.  I also love that the boy can CRACK a whip with the best of ’em.

Smokin!

This is my daughter riding too fast and with her reins far too long.

She didn’t care… FAST, in her little mind, is GOOD.  I cannot begin to think where she gets these attitudes.  That’s my niece Salina in the background – she is far more careful in her equitation.  We had to send her home part-way through the holidays with a nasty virus (suspected appendicitis at the time).  She’s back though – you cannot keep a good woman down.  Or away from a horse.

Or away from the whip, apparently.  (Whip cracking featured heavily as visitor entertainment these holidays, can you tell?)

This is one of our visitors from the first half of our last fortnight…

She is gorgeous and one of the most determined little women I have ever seen.  She mastered horseriding AND whipcracking in three days.  She and Violet found a lot in common.  Look out boys (in about ten years time)… her mother and I are already planning on going into hiding when they hit their teens.

And this is the end…

… not really, but’s a mighty fine version, you have to admit?  (And yes, Mr Incredible WILL throttle me for sharing this shot – he’s bashful like that.)

This is our daughter riding like the wind (Bullseye!) – do you think she was enjoying herself?

We all said “Poor Old Lacey” a whole lot this day – her 32-year-old bones were rattling, so we made sure she got double rations that night!

This is another gratuitous shot of my husband’s best angle… he was trying to make us all laugh (and succeeding) as he took a somewhat naughty Yvette for a spin in Dash’s saddle.

And that really IS The End...

So, is it school holidays at your place?

If so, has it been as hectic as here?

Thanks for being so patient with me – promise to try and be more regular soon (and I don’t mean the All-Bran variety!). I shall now fall in a crumpled heap (hopefully somewhere in the vicinity of my bed).

Hey, thanks for pushing aside your busy world for a while to let us in on the doings there in OZ. That boy of yours is going to end up on the cover of GQ in no time. Go fast Violet! Mr. Incredible BELONGS on the cover of GQ. You did good, lady. Great examples of equestrianism er horseback riding.

Hope your tummy is treating you better.

Welcome back, but feel free to take whatever time you need for those mad adventures! The kids have grown meters since we saw them “pondering” – it seems forever!

    Feel better!

Great pictures and looks to be a great time; these are the days your kids will talk about to their kids. My kids have just gone back to school (well about a month ago) and that is always a sad time for me as I love our summers together..beach camping, surfing and horseback riding. This year is particularly sad as my baby started her Senior year in high school and I know this marks the end of the mommy phase of my life.

I’d say you made up for your absence with these fun shots. Love the whip-cracking!!

Looking forward to hearing your exciting news! I guess the most exciting thing here in south Arkansas is that it’s no longer getting in the 90sF during the daytime. Hooray!

The turkey was in the back yard? I’m confused. We had turkeys in our back yard this week. A flock of them. We were very happy to see them, and hope that they will hang around.

I can’t wait to hear the exciting news. I can’t wait.

And really, you need to do something with that stomach of yours.

So, you have indeed been busy! Lovely pictures. And I think I’ll give the young one’s a wide berth! All that whip-crackin’ going on and all!

Sounds like great fun for you all, except for your having to miss out on much of the cuisine sampling–hope you get that nasty gall bladder to function properly, or leave! Perhaps those whip crackers could threaten it to behave???? Maybe, not. Company is lots of fun, but doesn’t leave much room for blogging. Know what you mean.

Hope your rest will commence forthwith!

The opposite of school holidays here! University is heating up fast and I’m working flat out to keep up.

Thanks for providing me with something relaxing to read during my brief and all too rare breaks.

Next school holidays can I turn back into a 10 year old and come and visit? Those photos looked like perfection as far as school holidays go! (What do you mean I’d need to go back to school if I was 10?)

Middle of school hols here. Just finished a three day Future Beef Breeders Youth Camp – 26 kids, plenty of learning, plenty of fun and amazing progress for some very keen youngsters. Three days which I thoroughly enjoyed and so glad I took the plunge to hold it in our small rural town. Thanks for sharing some of your snippets from a very hectic couple of weeks! 🙂
