downunder with a bush blogger

I’ve been a little random here (for those who check in regularly and are wondering where the heck I am lately) because I recently added to my regular projects (you know, ’cause I am so CALM and ORGANISED and BORED).

Can you see the underlying hint of irony in the typing above? If not, my husband will be happy to explain it to you.  He thinks I don’t know the word ‘NO’.  Well, he gets to hear it occasionally, but he suspects no-one else ever does…

The new project I decided to add to the teetering pile that is my ‘to do’ list  came about because I was invited to be part of a relatively new glossy magazine called downunder...

It’s a lovely publication with a bright red banner and border and is properly referred to as the The Horse Downunder Magazine.  But you know, we are Aussies and MUST abbreviate everything.  Anyway, after umming and aahing a tad…

I said ‘WHY THE HECK NOT!’ and threw caution to the wind (and some words and photos at them) …

‘Them’ being the movers and shakers behind this project: Tara (the editor) and Sally (her friend and regular contributor).

Both are regular visitors to Bush Babe (I have the BEST readers here) and these girls have lots in common with me.

Both are mums and both live in the bush – and both juggle things like crazy to make it all come together and wonder who invented the Two-Way Radio (seriously, if you are a woman married to a bloke on the land you will know what I mean: the darned thing means you NEVER get a quiet uninterrupted cup of coffee!)

And unlike some of you, who are all:

Goodness Gracious – is THAT what you see/do/hear/feel waaaaayyy out there in the wild Aussie outback?

…these two are all:

I know, I KNOW!!’

Which I find vaguely reassuring as I ride the rollercoaster that is life on the land, Down Under.  Whoever first coined the phrase Quiet Country Life, needs their mouth washed out.

Anyhoo, I think the downunder gals did an awesome job with my little offering…

Don’t you?

(I will take full responsibility for the outrageous captions – I was high on caffeine at the time!)

There is even the shameless plug for a certain calendar.

Heh.

Most Aussie newsagents stock the downunder magazine – if you are near one why not check it out?  It’s packed chokkas with lots of horsey action, gorgeous images and full-on characters (other than mine).  You can subscribe online, order hard copies at this link and I know SOME copies make it overseas, but might let Sal or Tara put that info in the comments section.  (Hello, you there girls?)

On opening the envelope with the crisp new red-bordered magazine bearing my little yarn, I felt a little thrill.  It’s fun, seeing one’s images and words properly printed up on paper – and nice glossy paper is especially thrilling!  I appreciate the chance to share some of my experience and a few of my views with downunder readers.  I wonder if most of them know what a ‘blogger’ is?  Only one way to find out…

I also wanted to say a special thanks to everyone else for reading me here (and there) – I love the similiarities and differences I discover on a daily basis as I ‘meet’ friends from all corners of the globe.  It never fails to make my day when I see your visits (on my sneaky statcounter) and I especially love it when y’all share your feedback.

🙂
