Post-flood maths
I have friends coming to visit. I love seeing friends. And this place (and its hostess) are just freaky enough to entertain adults and kiddos alike for a few hours…
My friends were due to arrive yesterday. All the beds were made and the worst of the chaos swept under the carpet. (Or inside the vaccuum cleaner).
Unfortunately Mother Nature got all nasty and decided to interrupt the (potential) party.
With about 60mm of rain…
Which, in the scheme of things, isn’t a huge amount. But when the ground is saturated…
SODDEN GROUND + 60mm = OH NO!
Lots of trickles adding up to burgeoning streams…
Slowly gathering pace and force as they join together…
Then rushing across roads…
And sometimes ALONG roads…
And, even at the very top end of a creek… well, it equals something you would think twice about sending a carload of four adults and three little ones over…
It’s the same crossing we were towed over Boxing Day... running VERY fast. The height on the guide posts makes it about hip-deep for me. Dash and Violet were heartbroken when I made the call that it was just too dicey for a visit.
ANTICIPATION – MUM’s UNFORTUNATE DECISION = CRANKY KIDS.
We have our fingers crossed that today Mother Nature will be kinder to us.
The sun is shining.
No rain fell last night.
And the post-flood maths is looking MUCH better this morning.

What a mess of those roads! Are they property owned roads or does the council have responsibility for the maintenance?
It is now teeming down in Brisbane – so dark I have the lights on and the road out the front is cracking up before my eyes!
Hells bells – what next?

Those ones are council roads – unfortunately almost ALL council roads are now in a terrible state so we do what we can to keep them viable until they get the time, resources (and ability, weather-wise) to get to them!

Poop, hope the wet stuff eases off and gives you a break (but not an entirely wide berth).

So devastating to watch from far away as you journal about the flood. While very interesting, we are hoping and praying that the waters are going down and not hurting more property!

Wow, I just can’t believe how much rain you have had. You must be feeling pretty isolated out there at the moment.
Hopefully you have seen the worst of it.

Not too isolated Lou – our Brissie friends are still managing to find us!!

A great series of photos showing the rising creeks and rivers. Sad your friends couldn’t get in, I hope you have plenty of supplies. I couldn’t find anywhere on your blog your general location other than Granite Belt.

They managed to arrive yesterday and have been ‘ooh-ing’ and ‘aah-ing’ over the views ever since!! Fingers crossed the showers stay light so they can get home safely again too!
