Cold Front

You know what I haven’t done for AGES around here?

A weather report.  I admit to getting a little ‘over-weathered’ (no comments about complexions please!) with all that flooding in January, and then we went on our little trip, and then… well. What can I say. I haz bin bizzy.

One morning this week, at around 6.15am, Dad called out to me from outside my toasty warm kitchen to come and see something amazing.  It was a cloud formation that stretched clear across the sky in an arrow-straight line.  And you could FEEL the chill it gave off.  We all admired the blanket of retreating cloud as it edged its way back to reveal a cold, clear blue sky.

A cold front*.  It brought with it temps plunging down to single figures. (Celsius, so in the 40s F).

Til now we have been lucky to avoid too much May chill, with lots of regular low cloud holding the warmth against the earth and saving us from early frosts.  That seems to have gone now.  It’s definitely ugg boot and ‘roaring fireplace’ weather.  (No, not snow, my American friends. If it ever snowed this far north, we would make worldwide headlines for climate change! Although our kids would be stoked.)

Predictions for the week ahead are:

weather may 28

Cool. No big frosts yet.  And still with the showers.

(Amazing after it had forgotten how to rain here for soooooo long, now it cannot seem to stop? And no, I am NOT complaining!)

How about you? How’s it looking in your neck of the woods/bush/city??

🙂

PS Thanks for encouraging comments on last post. They definitely helped. xx

PPS A better pic of this phenomenon was taken (with a mobile phone!) by my friend Jane. Check here.
