Flash forward
This is my baby.
She’s only six years old and pint-sized, but every SINGLE thing about this photo reflects the sheer ENORMOUS force of our Violet’s personality. She has all the sass and confidence of a 25-year-old – I don’t ever recall being as sure as this one. As someone who took an AWFUL long time to find her own ‘mojo’, I just revel in her certainty.
Mind you, being her parent is not all beer and skittles. You should try being me, looking to head out the the door to a meeting – she will not have a BAR of it. Tears, imploring ‘don’t go’ face, EVERY SINGLE TIME. I do a LOT of meetings and you would think that after YEARS of them she would relent… but no. Darned near kills me. *sigh*
One always-redeeming feature about Violet is her complete inability to lie. Oh she tries one on me every now and she has a pretty good innate sense of right and wrong. Not to mention that her ‘tell’ (when she tries to fib) is as big as the Atlantic. And no, I won’t share it here. She might read this one day, and I want to have THIS ONE THING over her when she’s giving me grief in ten years time.
I love you darlin’ girl. And I look forward to watching you crack your whip around the countryside – both literally and metaphorically – forever and ever. Amen.

My oldest could never lie when confronted. In fact, she often would come in (even as a teen) and ADMIT her crimes! There were times I really didn’t want to know!

BB–the intensity made me gasp a little. She is so focused, so determined. No one will ever fool her and heaven help the one who tries. And Not being able to lie well is a beautiful quality in a woman or man.

Let me tell you, BB. I have a daughter who is forceful and strong willed, and the thing is, I’d much have her be that way than not. Mind you, it can be a challenge to raise a kid like that, but it is even more challenging to raise a kid who’s NOT like that. You go Violet. I had one child that I could always tell when she was telling me a lie. She began it with, “I swear…” You knew right then…
