Take a long hard look at this face.
One day you and I will be taking this face seriously. I’m not sure how or why – all I know is that when he grows into those fence palings he calls teeth, and he builds up the muscles he so longs for, and when he decides whether he wants to be a guitarist (look out Keith Urban) or a comedian (Jimoein?) or a chef (cooking show addict and mudcake muffin expert that he is) or a pianist (Billy Joel?) or a mathematician (ummm?)… then he is going to blow us all away.
Dash is now nine, and has bouts of intense concentration (on stuff he adores, like strumming the guitar and reading Dr Seuss and planning how to make his first million) interpersed with long interludes of daydreaming and enacting out those (very complicated and often Transformer-laced) daydreams. He reminds me of my sister with his intensity AND his daydreaminess. But that maths thing – totally his Dad’s.
He has a wonderful ability to bring a smile to every face with hugs and clowning (depending on the target) even his hard-to-please Grandpa whose hand he shakes EVERY time he sees him (multiple times a day usually) while looking STRAIGHT into his eyes. He is a sensitive soul. Deep with a twist of worrywart. But his Mama thinks those amazing long fingers of his are bound for greatness.
I hope he handles fame and fortune well.
Even if the first bit just takes place amongst his adoring family.
Love yer guts, Big Fella.

Not just his adoring family. He’s got fans in America. A local writer popped into the store to tell me how much he loved the story about Dash. The receptionist at the doctor’s office said that the story made her teary eyed. Little old ladies who I don’t know think that he reminds him of their great grown sons when they were wee many, many years ago. Everyone loves a hero, Dash.

Sounds to me like the boy has a perfect balance in his life. Just the right amount of concentration vs daydreaming!

Debby said it right.
I remember those days—-and it continues now that they are grown and have Sons of their own
Love it

I love nine-year-olds. Well, I just love most kids. But nine year olds are super cool with their energy, love for life and limitless creativity. It’s been so fun to tag along and see some of the adventures your two go through. They are so blessed to have a mom who records and treasures their days.
