Wizard of Oz
This post will be short on copy and long on photos. I have to cook some Pad Thai for a birthday party today – we leave in an hour and I have only just begun thawing the chicken!
We attended a performance put on by our local high school last night – we have the smallest stand alone secondary school in Queensland and the cast were actually taken from Preps right through to Year 12 students. The musical chosen?
THE WIZARD OF OZ…
Three of Dash and Violet’s cousins were involved – one on the drums, and two as bit-part performers.
We adored every second of the colourful fun of this classic musical…
I wanted to show you a wide-shot of the hall – it’s like a big aircraft hanger and we were sitting towards the back of the audience but the acoustics were great and we were drawn into the performances put on by some very talented students (and teachers).
Oh LOOK at those Munchkins! That’s one cousin at the front right in the yellow shirt, and another with the plaits at the back left.
Dash’s favourite character was the Tin Man.
Mine was the Cowardly Lion.
Violet loved the Scarecrow. And Mr I thought that Dorothy was amazing (she was too – SO many lines to remember, so many high notes to hit!)
Oh look – here is the Big Cousin being a Jitter Bug …
Those NAUGHTY Jitter Bugs!
Here is our hairdresser/dancer/singer/choreographer’s daughter getting seriously into character!
She’s beautiful and fierce in real life as well…
The Wicked Witches were fabulous too – the green one had the MOST incredible voice – there were glasses shattering all over town with her raucous laugh!
They almost sold out three full nights and deserved every ounce of applause they were showered with on each night.
As did the makeup, hair, set, lighting and other assistants.
And the encore had everybody singing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ very loudly (and in my case, very badly) at the end.
So there you go – a great (late) night at a bush performance of The Wizard of Oz. I must go frantically cook and tidy myself up for today’s festivities. I will probably be late – and am hoping the guest of honour doesn’t mind too much that what made me late was posting up photos of two of her four little stars (middle back and middle front)…
HAPPY 40th NEETA!

What a mighty job! That is so great to see…

Looks wonderful. (…and that’s a really big complement given my extreme aversion to musical theatre)

Thanks for taking these photos Amanda, they look great. Can you please email them to me so I can put them in our next high school newsletter and also the primary school newsletter. Glad you enjoyed the show – time to get back to pony club on weekends now!

Very, very impressive! It’s so fun to see people you know putting on a production or performing…whether it be artsy or sportsy (just made up that word, spell check hates it). Cheering for your friends and family is the best.
