Red ones too…
I have to be fair, I cannot be biased, or bigoted or show any kind of favouratism a’tall!
My last post was all black, black, black… and Lord knows the cuteness there was off the scale.
But just a couple of kilometres further on up the creek…
(pause to acknowledge potential pun territory)
… it was all red poddies, man!!
(Please ignore terrible quality of above photo – I underexposed awfully and this shot never QUITE recovered).
And you have to admit, these little red babies do have the sweetest little faces,
not to mention their pink noses and toeses…
And OY, the eyelashes.
‘Tis a seriously sweet time here in the bush.
Don’t be surprised if I ambush you again with a Poddy Parade.
Who could turn their back (or their Nikons) on these guys?
(Anyone have a boom-boom for me?)
*crickets*

Nice babies! Dear me- did I see horns?
Bush Babe
LOL – yes, one first-calf heifer has some horns! She snuck in when we weren’t looking!

Poddy, poddy calf. I haven’t heard that for about 35 years. We had them, although different looking beasts. Five buckets of milk for five calves. Why did they all try and stick their head into one bucket? Except for the odd one that chose its own bucket of milk and then tipped the bucket of milk over its head. Not the brightest creatures, but except for the odd nasty one, quite lovable. Oh, there was the finger suckling thing too. Gee, they could suck hard.
Bush Babe
Yes, it’s an affectionate term here really. They aren’t actual poddies (orphans) who need to be fed by hand, we just refer to all calves as ‘poddies’!

Now these are definitely red – and just as beautiful as the little black babies!
Had to go back and examine a little more closely when I saw the “horn” comment. I was too busy looking at babies to notice! We had a baby once that started growing little nubs. Really startled me because I wasn’t expecting it!

Yes, it’s rare for us to get an animal with horns (we are trying to breed it completely out). But sometimes one with a strong Brahman parentage throws a horn like this. Much better without, if you ask me!

They are just the cutest things. I like the way they are staring at the photographer.

These little guys have the ability to melt one’s heart and make us smile! Black, red, yella or whatever – babies are babies and they are just super dooper adorable. :)Lovely post!
