Morning mustering (and other moments from a hectic day)

Yesterday was a big day.

We mustered and needled (vaccinations for our calves) a paddock, I went to a funeral while Mr I had a meeting, and then we helped celebrate a milestone for our local publican.

So it was fun, and dusty and sad and heart-breaking and happy… and just a little bit exhausting.

Here are a couple of the moments…

Unloading the truck.

A melee of excited pooches, stamping steeds and slightly bemused jackaroos and jillaroos.

Mounting up!

How keen do those dogs look?

Like MUSTARD baby!

Young guns.

Dash on his new horse, Taszar.  They are getting along nicely, and Diamond (Dash’s dog) is learning to follow this new set of hooves!

Quietly, quietly…

Mr I pokes down through the granite boulders towards the red cows.  We don’t like stampedes around here!

Dust ‘n’ dogs…

Dash follows the mob down the road, amid the dust and bellows.

Overseer…

Violet on Chi Chi – they make quite the pair.

(She’s an old soul, our girl).

And moving the mob…

Lots of instructions coming from the right of the screen there… the horse Mr I is riding is a new one, purchased during our weekend away (when we went to see Tay Tay).  He’s being called ‘the Brown Horse’ at present. I will notify you when something more descriptive is decided upon.

We are 3/4 way through our first round of vaccinations – a couple more paddocks before Christmas, then next month, the branding (and second round of needles) will take place.

I then whipped into town for the funeral – for a wonderful, funny, cheeky, bright gentleman who celebrated 51 years of wedded bliss with his darling wife this year – and it was quite heart-wrenching.  So hard to see friends in such deep grief.  I did the little bits I could and felt generally useless.  I loved hearing his eulogy though – I learnt so much about him.  I always think it’s such a shame we wait so long to share a person’s life story properly, isn’t it?

I then gathered groceries, picked up parts, whipped home, showered and gathered the troops for a return to ‘town’.

The final event of the day …which celebrated our dear publicans Julie and Tony preparing to leave Mulgildie pub, my aunt’s exhibition of photos and fundraising for the local aged-care facility.

We like to multitask around here!

So that was us.  Friday in a nutshell.

What did you get up to??

Pleased to hear you had a relaxing Friday. Aren’t eulogies so great for finding out about a person’s life! Such a shame that you cannot discuss the points with them.

Such a busy day, like you said a full day of work, fun and sadness. I lost my husband of 50years four months ago, it is really hard to go on. I feel for the lady, I had myself a good cry today. They just come on, not as often now but so many things will remind her every day. Tell her my thoughts are with her. No one can imagine the sorrow of losing a spouse until they have gone through it.

    Quite a day of activities.
Love the new steeds of the family.
Trust Christmas is on the cooler side with maybe some rain to do the “green thing”???
    Cheers
