Le visitors
We have had visitors here at Granite Glen over the past week. If you were reading my previous post, you will have noted a very sweet comment from ‘Elodie and Damien’. And perhaps you took note of a pair of champion nappers at the Goodwill Games?
This pair, a cousin of Mr Incredible’s best mate, and his girlfriend, became part of our family for 6 days. And while we often have guests here in our home, this couple were a little unique. They were French. (Still are, actually!)
I love the French accent… even when I can’t understand it, it sounds so… melodic!
They were so very keen to help out wherever they could – apparently Damien’s cousin had hoped we were ‘preg testing’ so he could get the full ‘bush experience’. (If you don’t know what I am talking about, check this post from my friend Jenny!). It’s a chore that involves long plastic gloves and lubricant…
We did implement a special barter system for the duration of our French visitors’ stay.
It included:
THEY: cooked awesome rich, naughty FRENCH Quiche Lorraine.
WE: supplied quiet horses for first riding experiences.
Pickles was a champion…
Violet posing with our riders.
Seriously, this chick even looks good in a kid’s riding helmet. French style!
THEY: supplied naughty rich delicious made-from-scratch CHOCOLATE MOUSSE.
WE: supplied friendly bulls.
THEY: brought Brie.
WE: offered some hungry little heifers to feed (not on Brie, on some hay!)
THEY: did a LOT of washing up.
WE: allowed our children to give them some soccer practice. (heh).
THEY: taught us some French words.
WE: Gave them sausage rolls and taught them to dunk-and-slam Tim Tams.
You see the cultural exchange going on here?
And if you think we were happy to see they back of them…
You’d be very, very wrong!
Merci for all the help, and the delicious calories.
And au revoir, our French friends… til we meet again.
🙂

Love when friends visit-they bring with them a missing element to our home, our schedules, our menus–quiche is one of my faves too, BB.

It’s all about culture…and if that culture involves food, well, really, that’s just the best cultural exchange of all!

Looks like a wonderful visit and a fun horseback ride!!

The culinary delights of La Belle France!
Ah, the joys of epicurean “heaven”!
How come you didn’t have fish on the menu?
If you ever want to be in “fish heaven”, get the French to cook it! Tres bon!
How come no saddles? Starting off as stockman/woman would suggest a saddle?
I bet it was heaps of fun?
Cheers

Anything involving food, particularly when somebody else prepares it sounds great to me.
Love how ‘collected’ those horses are, and the stance on that Violet … very obviously Queen of the broncs.

What fun eh! Ummm….how did you get the bulls to behave so well with the visitor?
Bush Babe
Theresa – these bulls were show bulls so have had a lot of handling. However ALL our bulls get handfed as weaners (what I am doing now actually) so none should be TOO wild or agressive.

Hi there,
we just catched up this post !
Thanks for your hommage Dame Amanda.
One word about the bush: AWESOME
One word about your family: same as above !
We are now talking to everybody how you taught us how to take care of the weaners, that now we can recognize the heaffer from the stears… We are so proud of this experience and to remember the vocabulary.
We definitly hope we will see you again and maybe bring new receipes from “notre cuisine”. Maybe next time we will try the bull riding 😉
We are on our way to Morton Island, no matter the rain, contre vents et marees!
En embrassant Sarah, Jacques, Marc et toi Amanda.
Give some hugs to Axel from our part too.
A bientot,
Elodie et Damien

You are MOST welcome Elodie and Damien (or as you are known in Oz: Ellie and Damo). I shall certainly be blogging the bullriding efforts – no-one here is mad enough to try it!! Have fun on Moreton.
