The new crew
I have been a bit slow off the block this year… in getting out into the paddock to record the newborns. They have been arriving in droves over the past couple of weeks.
There IS no more affirming time of the year for us… this is when we see if our breeding programs are working the way we intended. We want healthy, strong, solid, polled, active-but-calm little ones.
So on the way home from sorting up heifers (our ‘relaxing’ Sunday task) I stopped by one of our stud breeder paddocks, just to see how things were looking.
I like to think I am all ‘professional’ and able to focus on traits and not get all emotionally involved.
That lasted about 10 seconds…
A couple of week-old spunk bubbles…
Ha! Cheeky poss… who needs a hanky with a tongue this handy?
This little madam had me mesmerised…
Another cheeky tongue (should I be reading something into this?)
Too, too pretty… love it when their eyes are kinda silver, with the ‘black kohl’ look around the eyes.
I wonder if this is where the first idea of make-up came from?
I don’t think we need to worry about this little lady’s nerves… bold as brass!
Oh HELLO Handsome…
Pretty much love at first sight…
From his curly ‘fringe’, to his bold demeanour, his solid little legs and his broad, kind head…
He’s what my Dad would call ‘a ripper’. I suspect you will see more photos of this little man in months and years ahead.
Drop-dead handsome.
Can be photographed from any angle…
OH look – another gorgeous girl. All shiny in the afternoon sunlight.
(See the mamas calling their babies away from the strange lady with the camera?)
A newby… only a day or so old. Hiding safely under Mama’s chin.
I wish my kids would do this more… they are getting to an age now that they are much more independent. I do miss having them tucked under my chin like this.
So I made this up and posted it on Outback Paparazzi
Not because I think Violet and Dash will read it.
But cause I know there MUST be lots of Mamas like me, who miss the chin-tucking bit too.
🙂

There has to be a photo among these worthy of being as a month for next year’s calendar.

Ah – those babies all got clean nose holes. I’m sure their mommas are proud.
BB of Oz
LOL… they taught them well! Nose-licking 101.

I never got around to checking out any of the babies in our pasture this past season. Thank you for sharing some of yours. So sweet! That “mama” shot is wonderful, but I’m a bit taken with Elvis. 😉

Oh… and as much as I love being a part of the process by voting, perhaps this year you can just surprise us all with your own picks! 😀 (I wasn’t going to nag about a calendar until I saw you mention it above)

Oooo, they are gorgeous. I last about as long as you with the emotionally involved part on seeing calves. I could watch them for ages and love it when their curiosity gets the better of them in regards to checking out humans. That tongue shot is a funny one. I just want to be there.

Sweet. Thanks Anne!!

The ears look so big, when they are grown and sent to slaughter do they use the ears for something?
Name (required)
All is looking well up in your neck of the woods. The calves sure are in fine fettle.
The countryside doesn’t look too bad but I should think some good Spring soaking would be appreciated right now.
Rained here for about 20 minutes this afternoon – good for the gardens and lawns.
Cheers
Colin
PS; I have “facebook” stuff appearing all over the photos?? Very annoying.
