The new crew

I have been a bit slow off the block this year… in getting out into the paddock to record the newborns.  They have been arriving in droves over the past couple of weeks.

There IS no more affirming time of the year for us… this is when we see if our breeding programs are working the way we intended.  We want healthy, strong, solid, polled, active-but-calm little ones.

So on the way home from sorting up heifers (our ‘relaxing’ Sunday task) I stopped by one of our stud breeder paddocks, just to see how things were looking.

MRcalves_9363 e Oh MY…

I like to think I am all ‘professional’ and able to focus on traits and not get all emotionally involved.

That lasted about 10 seconds…

MRcalves_9346 eA couple of week-old spunk bubbles…

MRcalves_9352 eHello sweetheart…

MRcalves_9398 eHa! Cheeky poss… who needs a hanky with a tongue this handy?

This little madam had me mesmerised…

MRcalves_9420efCheck the eyelashes!

Another cheeky tongue (should I be reading something into this?)

Too, too pretty… love it when their eyes are kinda silver, with the ‘black kohl’ look around the eyes.

I wonder if this is where the first idea of make-up came from?

I don’t think we need to worry about this little lady’s nerves… bold as brass!

Oh HELLO Handsome…

MR1calves_9442 ePretty much love at first sight…

MR1calves_9440 eFrom his curly ‘fringe’, to his bold demeanour, his solid little legs and his broad, kind head…

He’s what my Dad would call ‘a ripper’.  I suspect you will see more photos of this little man in months and years ahead.

MR1calves_9459 eI might call him ‘Elvis’.

Drop-dead handsome.

MR1calves_9464 eCharming as all get out…

MRcalves_9467 eCan be photographed from any angle…

MR1calves_9476 eOH look – another gorgeous girl.  All shiny in the afternoon sunlight.

(See the mamas calling their babies away from the strange lady with the camera?)

A newby… only a day or so old.  Hiding safely under Mama’s chin.

I wish my kids would do this more… they are getting to an age now that they are much more independent. I do miss having them tucked under my chin like this.

So I made this up and posted it on Outback Paparazzi

MR1calves_9424 f mama eNot because I think Violet and Dash will read it.

But cause I know there MUST be lots of Mamas like me, who miss the chin-tucking bit too.

🙂
