Epic Break (& bonus epic break)

It’s been QUITE an action-packed school holidays here at Granite Glen.

Let me see my checklist… oh here it is.

FOUR sets of visitors – CHECK.

TWO bull sales – CHECK

FOUR Pizza Nights – CHECK

TWO Twitterlanches – CHECK

TWO days at hospitals – CHECK

Now, don’t panic, but let’s at least look at some sweet scenery before I explain those last two.  (This is a 1-2 coffee-rated post. Get comfy!)

Firstly, Dash had a day boy (non-boarding) mate out for a few days.  He was a really sweet young man (and extraordinarily clever) and seemed to love his dose of country.  They got to go fishing, pat bulls and horses and play with dogs.  Boy Heaven.

We visited our southern-most paddocks where the boys (including Mr Incredible and our resident tomboy, Violet) fished and I… well I took photos.

Our second lot of visitors were my city mates – who come annually (although last year’s visit was postponed for obvious reasons) with their kiddos for their dose of country.

This was just ONE of our outings… to the northern section of our river, which saw swimming, football and photo action.

Other visitors included my darling niece Salina for about half then holidays…

She fits right into whatever crowd we happen to have here.  As does Axel.  The great galut!

My sister (Jeanie) and her second daughter, Paris also visited.

In the midst of all this, I was talked into helping admin the wonderful Facebook group BETTER INTERNET FOR RURAL, REGIONAL and REMOTE AUSTRALIA.  It’s a group that has helped generate a LANDLINE story on the #DataDrought out here (part of the reason for my very sporadic posting here), an article on The DRUM, and a couple of Twitter storms using that very hashtag. (Quite skite: we trended top 10 in Australia three times in three days!)

I juggled the laptop and visitors which is no doubt very bad manners (lucky I have understanding friends!).

Twas all lovely really.Except for one, teeny tiny little BABY thing. Well, actually TWO.

First, I had had a sore ankle for a couple of weeks.  But I had, you know, been BUSY.  It was swollen but I kept on going.  And then… I had a fall.  The kind of fall that doesn’t make you even look twice.

As I was walking to my car, after a visit to a neighbour with our visitors, and talking over my right shoulder, my left foot (adorned with someone’s left-behind thongs) slipped on some leaves. It went… fast… forward onto gravel and kept going. My RIGHT leg  (where my very-much-wrecked right knee resides) decided to just COLLAPSE.

I fell (as they say in the classics) like a sack of spuds.  Not well.  Not elegant. And quite painfully.

The result? One broken leg. One very twisted, already-wrecked knee. And one ankle with significant ligament injury.

If it weren’t so very annoying and RIDICULOUS it would be funny.   I look like Astro Boy.  (Except of course of the flying bit).

So my celebrations for my VERY LAST (I hope) Herceptin treatment yesterday was somewhat muted.

The whole medical experience as I juggled these things was a saga in itself. I won’t bore you with it all.

Suffice to say that I am the proud (temporary) owner of a wheelchair and I have enough downtime to get this year’s calendar FINALLY sorted.

As I said. A bit epic.

So anyway… how were YOUR holidays?  And dramas?
