Wee li’l Bulls

The last of our ‘chores’ during weaning is usually walking out the little bulls. This is because it’s generally the shortest, the calmest and there is plenty of eye candy!

Of course, this weekend we had Bec and ‘Chatter’, who is storybook gorgeous! He just doesn’t take a bad photo… look at these poses!

(Bec is beautiful too, that goes without saying.)

These boys are only 6-9 months of age but are already looking like ‘real little bulls’… cute bull butts!

These guys were actually walking right through a stud breeder paddock – which means many of their mums close handy – so I headed off in the car at this stage and parked near the biggest mob of cows. I played them some loud Luke Combs so they couldn’t hear any calls from their offspring!

I met the riders again as they entered the next paddock – without any extras in the mob (well done team!).

Love this angle from higher up a hill, as Bec and Sarah bring up the rear, with Laura (Sarah’s great mate) leading out on Tighe.

Our girl took our young filly, Vedette, on this ride. She is super-pretty but also super-cheeky, as she hasn’t had a lot of mustering yet. You can see Sarah riding extra carefully, ready for any little bouts of naughtiness

Diamond being super helpful with Sarah at the back of the mob.

However…

There is always one who thinks they can test the boundaries… we have the most awesome posse of pooches who SPRING into action as soon as a beast gets a silly idea like this into its head. (From left, Ginger, Dani, Maggie and Sparky.)

Back you go, R24. (Nice bit of air-time from Dani.)

He was very well-behaved after this ‘gentle reminder’ of the rules.

Sweet little bull butts…

Sarah and Vedette rounding up the wanderers…

Have I ever mentioned how much I adore the granite rocks around here?

I also love a red-head… Vedette and Ginger are our resident red-heads!

Heading down the last slope towards the yards where our young bulls will settle, feed and be let out from into an adjoining paddock…

A bit of behind-the-mob advice from cousin Bec. Sometime soon after this, Vedette tried out her rider – I missed the action, but believe she did NOT have a win. Nice work Sare-bear!

I had whipped around the front of the mob (cross country, cause that’s what 4WDs are for, right?) to open the gate and grab a snap of the lead. I think you can see Sarah settling her steed in the background here…

Such a lovely feeling, having all the ‘kids’ in their own ‘big bovine’ paddocks after weaning. And having everyone smiling at the end of the day – even our filly after being sorted out.

Was a little sad taking our girl (and her mate) back to boarding school afterwards – this coming weekend will be our first one without the kids, thanks to Covid-19 lockdowns and weaning (over past two weekends).

I will console myself with the (much) smaller laundry loads…
