I am missing my camera dreadfully…
It’s been
gone over two weeks and while my husband is enjoying having me focussed a little more on him, rather than simply
focussing on him (if you get my drift), I am in
severe withdrawals. Have you noticed that I have been forced to use a
point-and-shoot (
please don’t tell me if you haven’t even noticed!) and I have even post
ENTIRE monologues sans images??
…
So as I fidget in barely restrained anticipation of my slightly battered Nikon (hopfeully) arriving back into my lovin’ arms early this week, I have dug into the archives to unearth something a little bit special.
…
It’s from a few weeks ago, at a friends place. Actually, you have met my friend W earlier in the year. Well, you’ve
admired her butt. Anyhoo, W had a
Body Shop party at her place. We had all gathered under the shady trees between her house and their horse yards, taking in the spiel of our local BS rep. Only there happened to be a little
distraction from the sweet-smelling lotions and potions lurking nearby.
…
Wanna meet him?
Oh. My. Goodness.
Is that possibly the sweetest profile you ever did see?
He was only a few days old, and was not wanting to be away from his Mama.
This is W’s son, Harry.
He managed to cuddle this delicious, tippy-toed creature just hours after the foal was born, and he really wanted to share the experience with his little mates. So they gathered around in the yard to watch in wonder…
But Little Buckskin wasn’t keen.
In fact he was downtight standoffish. His first does of stage fright!
W came close to advise patience, as the enraptured crowd pressed closer…
And Little Buckskin dove for cover…
Patience…
patience Harry…
And finally, finally we have contact!
…
So now, whenever anyone asks me:
‘Yeah, but what is so amazing about horses?‘
I shall send them here, to this very photo.
To see this expression on Harry’s face…
That silent, joyous ‘Yesss!’
And meanwhile
back at the milkbar…
it’s reward time for our Lil Buckskin.
…
Oh, and that earlier meeting of Harry and the Little buckskin?
W has been kind enough to share this pic she shot early on the morning the foal was born.
Harry in his PJ’s, in heaven…
Happy Days…

Oh, how sweet.
Speaking of sweet, how did Dash make out with the toothfairy?

Beautiful little buckskin! And those pics of Harry with the colt!! They’re perfect…you can read that pleasure he’s experiencing on his face and almost feel it yourself!! 🙂

All of these shots are just priceless. I hope your camera arrives home soon.

So sweet! Baby horses are just about the cutest thing since, well, anything! I must say, your animals are just nicer in Australia (the domestic ones anyway, we’ll not get into the snakes and spiders) I’ve witnessed several horse births and the mothers never let anyone get that close to their foal! Anyway these shots are just priceless. I love the ring of kids all leaning towards the foal. You can see the excitement and barely contained…movement! They want to touch that baby! That last shot is just amazing…
Well off to church…although i think this post was my spiritual experience for the day 🙂

Beautiful post, makes me remember seeing my first foal born when I was 8 years old, she was also a buckskin, but much lighter, they are so precious, and it looks like Harry is hooked for life! gotta love it.

Ah, it looks almost cute.
But I know that what lurks beneath that sweet exterior and big brown eyes, is the heart of a wee monster. I have had my own experiences with baby horsies, and it’s not a pretty story. Bah, I say. Don’t get taken in.
Maybe I’ll post something tomorrow….
WV: acting
(as in “acting up” perhaps?)

Gaah – couldn’t get your comments window to open without great coercion.
Of course, with his pedigree Harry has no choice but to be in love with horses, but that is such a beautiful little story you have put together here.

Hey BB,
It is pretty amazing what a ‘point and shoot’ can capture when the right eye is behind the camera, huh?
But I know how you miss your beloved Nikon, so at this time i would like to dedicate a song to you….

Debby – Dash did get a visit (finally) from the tooth fairy. Fairy dust and a gold two dollar coin were involved. It was great – although he did note that the fairy dust closely resembled the glitter in the craft box!
WF – I know – I adore that expression!
7MSN – me too! Me too…
Kate – oh thankyou… what a lovely compliment!
Red – yep. This little fella has been hooked since birth… his family are seriously into horses!
Pam – you don’t like foals? Really? That IS weird… I shall have to hear the rest of that story!
Jeanie – ta. And yeah… this little fella has saddle grease in his veins!
Diane – too sweet! Thanks. I shall have to look that one up – but sounds right to me!!!

Oooooohhhh! So sweet! Love baby foals and every other stage up. What a beautiful animal. Sorry Pam has had other experiences not so fun, apparently.
Lovely post–whatever kinda camera used!!! The kids were precious. Love how kids love small and baby animals!
WV: qhvkx Do you think it should be pronounced quivk? Maybe?

Oh wow – what a little sweetie!
And that last photo is divine.
Tami
Very sweet. I love newborn foals whiskers…they are so curly and soft.
Andrea
What a sweety! I love that first photo! Adorable. Little buckskin is simply adorable. And Harry, what a handsome fellow!! Great shots.

Oh, I love all animals with the exception of squirrels, and I’ve even forgiven the skunk for spraying the dog, as it was just doing what a skunk does. And I like foals just fine when they’re out gamboling in a field or frolicking in a Disney movie, I just won’t ever turn my back on one when I’ve got it on a rope. I’m just saying….

Buckskin is absolutely precious and I love the photo of the kids all gathered around Momma & her Baby. They look like they're in silent reverence.

Love it. We stopped breeding a couple of years ago, and I miss the babies.
Once when our Welsh pony foaled we had eight kids in there with her 30 minutes later. That baby never forget her imprinting and is wonderful with children.
