Long weekends and weather

We have farewelled our city friends after a lovely long weekend (Happy Labor Day) and must now face the shortened week with extra energy.  I head to Rock-vegas to do some jobs tomorrow – nothing like the prospect of a 600km round trip to brighten your outlook!

Speaking of outlooks, is it weather-watch time round here? Hmmm… no excuses today. Let’s get stuck in and do some serious reporting….

weather may3

The weather in our region is definitely cooling down and drying off.  Kinda typical of late April-early May conditions.  The dust is certainly flying and our visitors were feeling the chilly nights during their stay (these are people who live near the ocean though – no frost tolerance at all!).   We are almost hitting single figures here overnight – which suits my hubby down to the ground (FINALLY the air conditioning gets a rest).  Even our usually-ruthless UV rating is easing up.  We are hoping for some more rain before the cold weather really sets in, but the chances of anything substantial are not awesome. Ah well.  I haven’t given up hope yet – although the sprinklers have been unearthed and working hard to keep our lawn a bit less crispy.

Please remember to leave YOUR forecast in the comments – I will be rewarding myself and checking on the world weather (through you) when I make it home from my day on the road tomorrow.

While you are there – tell me: do you like driving? I actually do – always have – and it’s nice to be able to play my own music LOUD (expect some thumping Jimmy Barnes and a spot of Walking on Sunshine Katrina and the Waves style, on Central Queensland highways tomorrow).  Be afraid, be very afraid.

I am going to finish this post with a couple of glimpses of the place we farewelled our visitors today.

I suspect this is becoming one of my favourite spots round here.

It’s rugged and still and mysterious all at once… and how glorious are those colours?

LOVE that last pic, so beautiful. Um…wishing i was Down Under right now. We got 4 inches of new snow this weekend. It is May 3rd right? Clear and a high of 55 (F) today but supposed to snow again the rest of the week. Blech. But the water is good, we need it for the ranchers and farmers.

And i do like driving. I like blasting the tunes and cruising down the road. So fun.

I love road trips! Especially when I’m the driver and can choose the diversions and detours.

It’s 62F right now, headed for 72F, partly cloudy and windy. Mostly sunny the next 2 days, then showers when Diane and baby Henry fly in on Thurs!

After a weekend of tornados and severe storms, it’s a beautiful sunny day here (Arkansas). Mid 80sF.

I love that last shot. Gorgeous!

Expected low 60’s mostly sunny to partly sunny in the San Luis Valley, CO!

Unfortunetely this usually also results in hurricane force winds off the mtns as the snow melts so it really isn’t enjoyable. Bummer.

Send us some rain! Then I don’t have to water the grass!

Raining on the Gold Coast…. we had 84mm overnight and there’s no sign of it easing. Hope some rain comes your way.

It was raining at wake-up time this morning – then sunshine – then rain – then rain and sunshine – constantly surprising.

I love driving, which is a good thing. I would love to be able to play my own music on loud, but haven’t had that option for 10 years, not even contemplatable given my current stereo situation…

we might get snow again. spring in saskatchewan is so darned moody. it’s like dealing with a teenager. hopefully it’ll just be rain. i don’t want to change from my sandals now that i’ve had them on.

i dislike driving. i’m good at it and can do it in a pinch. i can even drive a manual transmission (though i intensely dislike having to shift gears all the time). i prefer to be passenger. That way i can look at what i want to look and and not have to concentrate so much.

Tomorrow, it’s supposed to be 10 – 22C and partly cloudy. 0% chance of 0mm.
Sunday has a 30% chance of 1mm. Such is autumn weather round these parts!

Finally clearing, here. Temps about 80F, and with all the rain we’ve had, it’s all gone from winter-blah to so green it wants to blow your eyes out. 😉 We’re mostly glad to let the furnace have a break.

When it comes to driving, well, I think I’m fairly good at it. Started on a standard, and sort of miss it, now, though my automatic was surely nice while I had one foot in a cast. (The important one, of course.) And truly, if the whole family is going somewhere, I’m most often the one at the wheel. Which is handy, since if I’m riding shotgun, and try to check a map, or read a book, I’m almost guaranteed to be carsick in minutes. If I MUST be looking out the windows, I might as well be herding the beast down the road, I suppose! Plans are in the works for a trip across the state in June… 8 or 9 hours in the car, each way, I can’t wait!

We will have 60’s today, lots of wind, and some rain. Just put down some grass seed, so that should be good — maybe the bare spots in my lawn will go….

Reporting in from the mid-north coast of NSW, where we woke this morning to rain! Hadn’t been checking the forecast, so it was a complete surprise – especially after it had been really sunny and hot over the weekend. And it was a bit bloody annoying because of the daughters’ rep netball training/coaching this afternoon that I had to sort out the logistics for… Shouldn’t complain though, should I… Still pretty mild here on the coast, though forecast later this week is for maxes in the low 20s, and mins down to about 12. We’ve recently changed from a blanket to a lightweight doona.

Driving? Meh. I discovered that I enjoy it most when I’m by myself and can sing out loud without being hassled.

  • Red Dirt Mummy

We’ve had a cold start to the week her in Perth – jeans and jumpers all round – but it’s warming up to the high 20’s by the weekend. No rain though and we could really use some.

I love driving, so long as it’s country driving. At the moment I’ve got Spandau Ballet and The Whitlams on high rotation in the car. Turn the music up LOUD, wind the windows up so no-one has to hear my horrible voice and sing away at the top of my lungs. It’s even better whenthe kids join in to my 80’s music and bop away in the back seat LOL
