Away with the birds (family & Keith)!
Did I mention we had a couple of days away last week? The mini-break that started off fabulous, got a little damp and then spun into a surreal B-grade movie…
Yeah. Well, here is a little retrospective of the first three days of that break – before the B-Grade movie bit. A brief escape (if you like) of the reality that we are still dealing with… grab a cuppa and indulge in some light-hearted holiday fun!
In photos. 🙂
Me – excited about the freebie toiletries in the hotel. These are the things that thrill me – maybe I’ve been in the bush too long? Heh.
The rain begins and Dash and Violet and I decided it was as good a time as any to go for a swim. The kids because they are kids and rain means nothing (they are wet anyway) and I because it’s raining and therefore no-one else will be in the pool (I am not much for public swimming these days!).
Violet and I get all ‘girly’ – a pedicure and some fake $4 nails for Violet. She loved them and mourned the loss of each nail (all gone within 12 hours).
FOOD! New Year’s resolutions out the window… when someone else is cooking and washing up, I INDULGE. (Almost without guilt!)
I caught up with some great girlfriends (the birds referred to in the title of this post). From left Shirley from Rhubarb Whine and Bel from OopsieMumma. I love those gorgeous girls.
And I got mah cowgirl boots on (which weirdly, I would never THINK of wearing at Granite Glen!). I’m the American look in the middle, my mate Leonie is the authentic RM Williams boot to the right and Bel (who won the free ticket) is the city chick stiletto to the left.
Here is our top halves… Leonie, me and Bel. Man we had fun – we laughed, we sang, we danced. To this dude…
Mr Keith Urban. (My KU story here)*
It was entertaining to watch OopsieMumma (who had fallen in lust with Keith from his stint on The Voice but has no idea about his music or indeed Country Music in general). Her eyes got wider as she realised this bloke is not only cute, with awesome lyrical songs… he can PLAY GUITAR.
It’s like that guitar is PART of him…
I don’t know about you, but I have to admit it’s kinda sexy. I suspect every female in that Entertainment Centre felt pretty much the same.
Specially when he sings his songs for his family… *le sigh*
A special guest were the Madden Brothers. I was astounded to discover that it REALLY was Joel Madden (also from The Voice and that hard rock group Good Charlotte) with twin brother Benji – those boys knocked it out of the stadium too…
My palms darned near peeled, and my voice was hoarse by the end of the show.
In the days to come, as we tried to work out when we SHOULD have left Brisbane to beat the floodwaters to make it safely home (straight after Keith finished singing) I have to say I still think it was worth it. I’m not sure my friends who were consequently stuck in one of the worst-hit towns on the way home and had to sleep in their car without showering, are quite as generous. Not that he is being blamed DIRECTLY, you understand? His timing was just a little out. (Although at least we got to see him, many travelled only to have shows postponed and then cancelled and THEN got stuck – a much worse scenario!).
Me? I’ll treasure this memory of Keith singing JUST for me (no Leonie, Bel and Linda – not you!).
For newbies wondering about this fabulous Queensland entertainer – check Keith’s site here.
Great to see that those who missed out on his postponed and cancelled shows get another crack at it here.
I shall return to some of the realities of The 2013 Floods next post. The trip home and what we found when we arrived… hope you enjoyed this brief escape!
🙂

*All Keith photos taken on OopsieMumma’s little camera – I may have commandeered it as I had been a good girl and left my ‘proper’ camera at home. I was in serious withdrawals…

Looks like a blast was had by all who love their favorite singers. Martyn Joseph (martynjoseph.net) of Wales does that for me as often as he gets to the West Coast. Evenings out with girlfriends revive and stimulate our energies in ways that nothing else can. Lucky you all for having each other to do these great activities with !~!

Wasn’t it the best show EVER!! I was there the same night as you, directly opposite by the look of your pics. Here’s my post about it if you wish to take a look. 🙂 http://want2beaphotographer.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/keith-urban-concert.html
