Sweet sunset girl…

Our sweet chestnut mare, Yvette, who has been my Dad’s horse, my horse, Dash’s horse, and Salina’s steed has been waiting in a paddock near the house for the past few weeks.

Of course, she didn’t know WHAT she’d been waiting for.  She had seen Holly produce a stunning long-legged daughter three weeks ago, but she had no idea the same thing might happen to her.

Well, yesterday afternoon (around three weeks earlier than anticipated by the experts) some funny things started happening to Yvette.
yvette_7099She started weeing a lot and getting a belly-ache…

Make it stop, she seemed to say, as she kept walking towards us, looking for comfort.

yvette_7105She soon lay down and began to push… milk began pouring from her udder too.

yvette_7116And soon… little hooves still in the birthing bag…

yvette_7127A few giant heaves later… a chestnut… something!  We cleared the head of the sac and sat back to let nature take it’s course…

yvette_7148 eMovement!  Life!  And a little struggle to get upright… a quick check and we can confirm: IT’s A GIRL!

What on EARTH is going on back there?  What is THAT thing?

yvette_7143 rYou cannot blame a first-time Mum for wondering what happens next… whatever this thing was though, it smelled pretty good to Yvette.

An hour or so later, after the humans gave the new Mama some private bonding time…

Well, LOOK who’s a clever girl?
yvette_7182 eKeep going little one… don’t mind those stickybeak humans…

yvette_7186 eThere we are…

Nicely done, Yvette. Nicely done.
