A Mother’s Touch

In another life, I took photos…
Not like now, where it’s all about my family, Granite Glen, the animals and me.
I took photos for other people, for other reasons.
This is one of my very favourite images…
It’s of a mother and newborn baby.
A very premature newborn baby.
She weighed less than one kilogram and – along with her twin – was fighting for her little life. Her Mum was a friend of mine, met in another hospital, at another time, with another child, who was also fighting for his life in another way.
The poignancy of this moment hits me right between the eyes every time I see it.
At this moment, she didn’t know what the future held for her daughter.

She didn’t know she would spend years in and out of hospitals and accompanied by breathing machines for her child, and rarely going out.

She didn’t know that her daughter would prove one hell of a fighter.

And that she – and her twin – would win their fight and live.

And turn out to be a beautiful ‘normal’ little girls.

She didn’t know.

She just knew the love of a mother’s touch was all she had to give.

And I was lucky enough to be asked to be there, to capture this moment.

I left this once before, but my computer server went down. If this shows up twice, I apologize.

That is a beautiful picture, BB, and I hope that the mother has a copy of it.

Fantasticly poignant photo. The will to live is powerful. Mother’s love is potent. God bless mother’s.

What a beautiful picture and story.
My heart was pulling as I read it through – such a tiny little foot and I know that mother would have held so much hope.

I am so glad the twin girls won the fight and survived.
Thank you for sharing it BB.

Debby – the Mum has this and many more photos from this shoot – I did it for her!

PW – a Mother’s love is an amazing enduring thing. Just as well… it sure gets tested on occasion!

BA – Thanks. That foot was INCREDIBLY little – a tad more that one joint in your finger… I cried like a baby when the Mum sent me a Christmas photo of her little man (a heart kid with my Dash) and her two little women. You would not have had any idea that they had all fought so hard for life. It was wonderfully normal.

Alice – I wish I had been there to take those photos for you.

    Hugs
    BB

Beautiful picture – and yes, I have seen it before, and yes, it got me going again!

But the best bit is that she has more than pictures. That is great.

Beautiful sentiments Bush Babe. What a precious photo. My cousin went through this too – twin girls born a 24 weeks gestation, 700grams they were, with translucent skin. They too, fought and lived and are happy littel 4 year olds now. They have some relatively minor health probs, but overall, are happy little souls and the lights in their parents lives. We shoudl never underestimate the seemingly fagile things in life, should we.

BB – so do I. Then you could have made me a header, too.

    (grin, duck, run).

(Seriously – your photos are just amazing. Really)

TB – in many ways I feel quite blessed to have gone through our heart traumas with Dash as I treasure each day so much. I got to meet some amazing people too – life got put into perspective in a hurry!

    Andrea – thanks!!

Alice – it’s not the banner MAKING that’s frustrating, it’s the DECIDING and the FITTING. But I have it sorted now… happy to help (although I’m not too dependable with deadlines these days!)

I have never seen a baby that small. Oh, gosh, it’s just so hard to look at…what a tiny, perfect little foot. Incredible picture. I’m so glad she turned out ok. A mother’s love is a wonderful and powerful force.
