New tricks and tips at my new place

Hello dear readers… How YOU doin’? (Say that in your best Joey-from-Friends voice please)

I need to know how you are handling the transition from my sweet stationary old blog to this newfangled Bush Babe of Oz place?

I know there have been some rough patches, a few potholes along the red dirt road you might say.  Let’s address a couple of those, shall we? Let’s try and grade those jolts a little smoother for you.

I want you to bear in mind, that I am the ultimate greenhorn when it comes to internety things.  Even two years down the track, I go a bit green when faced with code dilemmas.  Just ask Conor, my ever-patient WordPress expert dude.  I shall be quoting from him in a number of these tips, and running back to him crying if they don’t work.  Filled with confidence yet?  Now I have lowered your expectations a notch, we should be right to roll.  Okay?

NAMES ON COMMENTS: I am hoping that after a certain number of times commenting here, the comments section will start to remember you.  Is that happening?  If you have a blog, please remember to put your blog address in too so we can come and visit you at your place when you make a really interesting/pertinent/naughty comment.  See how Jayne and Jeanie (my clever sister) have done it below… Jayne has even showed off with a link within the comment. Jeanie DID show me how to do this, but I forgot.  Time for a lesson again, please dear?

AVATARS: this is the little picture that should come up beside your comment.  This is mine:

It doesn’t have to be your face – it can be anything you’d like really.  Jeanie sometimes uses a sunflower in hers.  It’s totally up to you!

Not every blogger has the option to put this image in their comments section, but I really liked the idea that we could all see the ID you have chosen as well as ‘hear’ your voice in my party comments space down below.  More friendly.  If you have used WordPress before and have registered an avatar with WP, it should come up each time you put your associated email address in the comments ID box.  IF you haven’t used WP before, you can also go to Gravatar (stands for Globally Recognised Avatar) and set your own up for free. It’s the email that dictates the avatar which appears, apparently (quote, unquote Conor!). Have a fiddle and let me know how you go (I hope to even see the results for myself at the bottom of this post!).

comment love
COMMENT LUV: this is a new plugin I have activated which allows us to all see a link to your latest post.  If you tick it (and you have a working blog url in the ID box) it will automatically bring up the title and link to the last post you published.  Cool, eh?  If you register with Comment Luv, you can choose which post you want to promote from a selection.  I am too lazy to do that, but that’s no reason you can’t get all tricky!  If you want it at your place, here is the wordpress link and here is the blogger link.

SUBSCRIBING: I am hoping most of the issues here are ironing themselves out – I will be gradually phasing out my old blog as I am sure that you are all getting the feeds to this new place.   Of course, you need to have the new address in your feeder – www dot bushbabeofoz dot com .  Most issues are with the ‘Followers‘ tool I use (see the wall of faces to the right).  I guess it’s because I kinda hijacked you all over at my old Blogger site and I use a WordPress editor now – it’s foreign to this blog platform and I forced it – I just didn’t want to lose your smiling faces from the little sidebar party that the Google Friends tool lets me have.  I’m selfish like that.  Conor has helped sort out the back-end stuff, but there still appear to be hiccups for a couple of you.

If, for some unknown internety-gremliny reason (see how I have an iron-tight grasp of nerd lingo here?) you are NOT getting updated feeds through the Friends gadget, please try unsubscribing and then re-subscribing.  That might re-set whatever is upsetting the cosmic flow of posts from me to you. (Yes I know Conor, that’s not the right terminology.  You’ve met me, right?).    It will put your image at the top of the block too. Bonus!

That’ll do for today.  I am totally giving myself a headache – too much nerdy stuff and not enough of this

Tell me how you go though, please… and if I totally bamboozled y’all with my kind of explanation.  (Conor, are you ready?)
