Under the weather

It rained here last night.  Rained and rained like there was no tomorrow.

Bloody glorious.

I haven’t photos of the aftermath… I have been a little under the weather for the past 48 hours, so am taking the lazy option and posting up ‘before-math’ photos.  (Cracking myself up here – must be those pain meds!).

The river down from our house is running today – I actually have (slightly muddy) water views from the office window.  We had more than 90mm of rain (a little under four inches in the old scale) in about 12 hours which was amazing – I cannot begin to tell you how MUCH we love our rain up here.  As we are not farmers (we are graziers) we don’t fret quite so much as some (who might face losing a crop if they get flooded) about a little extra water lying around.  I hear that sound of drumming droplets on the tin roof, and I cannot help but smile.

As you can see, I have chosen the most un-rainy photos in my recent archives, to provide a little contrast when it I share the next batch of landscapes from here. All the dust has settled and the freshly-burned country will burst back into life over the next few days.  And I do promise to share some images with you once I climb back on top of my little malaise.

Until then, please share your weather outlooks – and how you have been enjoying them (or otherwise!)

It has cooled off considerably in the last week and I wear long sleeves again comfortably. Summer may be gone for the year-it’s all right though, I love fall.

I love rain too. So many years waiting for it. Local farmers from around here (and they ARE farmers) are very fussy. They want rain on THIS paddock, and not on THAT one.

I’ll take it any way it comes. And I was fine with our 40mm until I heard you had 90mm. So while you might get greener paddocks, I will just be green (with envy)!

We’ve had psycho-weather this week. Last few days, we’ve had a heat wave in the 30s with high humidity and then my daughter arrived at university on the east coast during Hurricane Earl – high winds and waves, toppled power lines, etc. For us at the cottage this weekend in Quebec, it’s turned cold, around 10C. Summer always ends with a bang in Canada…no quiet creeping towards fall, just one morning you wake up, open the door and say to yourself “yup, it’s over.” I’m going to miss it. We’ve had the best summer weather in years.

Although I grew up in Florida and spent my summers in the sun, preferably on the beach, I no longer appreciate summer. Finally, ours is coming to an end as our days start out in the 50s (F) or 60s and “climb” to the 80s. The sky is blue and the atmosphere is sunny! I love being able to open windows, and drive with the windows down in the car. My cat loves to go outside in the cooler weather – she turned her nose up at the heat outside our door in the past few months. Currently it is 73F with a predicted high of 77. Yippee!!!

BB – be well, the world needs you. In the meanwhile turn up the meds and set yourself free; wherever you land it won’t be so ill. The weather in the valley of the great Ohio River USA is in about the same zone as Nancy, except for the cat thing.
    with healing thoughts – Bill

Today is bright and sunny – for now! We have wombats above ground trying to dry themselves and their burrows out. the forecast is for more rain and then some more and then some more – I will NOT complain about the rain – however much I want too!!!
    Hope you feel better soon.

Hope you are over your ickies and feeling better soon!

South Dakota is fantastic at the moment. We have lovely 60-65 at night and mid 70s during the day. Just glorious. I wish i could bottle this, but I know winter will be here soon… *sigh*

So sorry, like others have mentioned, to hear that you’re “under the weather” (love the pun)enough to take pain meds! Mercy! Have you bunged up your ailing knee? Pray it’s not so! Do take care and get well soon. And yes, do enjoy the lovely rain drops falling on the tin roof. Such a lovely lullaby.

We had our 4 inches of rain last Friday, mostly in about 3 hours. It was lovely and refreshing. We had some more today and are scheduled to have more over the next two days. It’s a tropical storm I didn’t even realize was headed our way.

On the news looked like Victoria (in your part of the globe) had more than 4 inches. Man. Floods have their purpose, but that much water is hard to deal with all at once!

    Get better soon!

Enjoying a lovely sunny day here today – AND NO WIND! Hey yeah! Got to love still days, so few and far between here which is why I try not to think about it too much. Nice enough outside to prompt me to break the push mower out of hibernation and get her started! Spring is in the air here and we are enojying every second of it. Not quite spring enough to dare us to plant our vege garden just yet though… those BIG frosts are bound to hit again – they do everyyear and seem to just wait until we plant! 🙂
