Flood-bound

It’s pretty wet here at the moment… so wet, in fact, that our much-anticipated trip to the coast for Christmas is in doubt.

Floodwaters are rising and falling within hours – cutting us off from access to the outside world then letting us through, then swelling again.  It’s not so much a matter of getting stuck, as a matter of where we want to be stuck.

This bridge has gone under twice since Sunday, and with big rain still predicted for the week ahead, the smart money is on another dunking for the timber!  This creek leads into the river which runs past our house – and it came down big-time again this afternoon.

I am not sure I QUITE stocked up enough during my visit to town yesterday – it’s my first flooded-in experience as a Mum (I have vague recollections of it as a three-year-old).  We will see how my pantry holds out in the days ahead…

Despite the challenges the volume of rain is presenting, I am still enjoying hearing it on the roof.  And while my dryer still works, I am coping nicely with my chores.  I am a little sad that all my baking might be imbibed here rather than at my sister-in-laws place… partly because I know the other goodies on offer over there would be mouth-watering!

But whatever will be, will be.  Mother Nature is totally in charge here at present.

It might be a wet, wet Christmas…

Stay tuned.
