Happy Families

A snap taken as we showed our visitors the Dam yesterday…

So unbelievably UN-SUMMER-ish for an Aussie January, don’t you think?

Half a dozen Happy Families (or Happy Jacks, whatever you call them) huddled together for warmth in the cool afternoon breeze after yet another shower of rain…

I’d like to acknowledge the generosity of Australians during the Queensland Flood Appeals on television tonight.  More than six eight nine million dollars raised already.  And the night is young…

According to the stats – over 200 000 people have been affected, with more than $5 billion damage.  That’s pretty big, in anyone’s language.

So many people in so much trouble – and so many others reaching out to help. I totally live in the best country in the world (even if the weather is a bit weird).

Of course, all my international visitors who have also donated and left encourging words here and at other Aussie websites – know that every little bit helps.  I have mentioned before how wonderful it is to feel part of a bigger community – especially at times like these.  I may be a touch romantic, but sometimes it feels like we are one big flock of Happy Families.  Huddling together to keep warm when the wind is cold.

Know I am not the only one reading your comments who has been affected by the devastation.  Friends, family and other amazing Aussie bushies also pop in and take heart from the positive thoughts left behind by those who visit.

On behalf of them all: Thankyou.

🙂

The results are spectacular and yes we are a great nation – we reach out and dig deep in times of need, and I for one am honoured to be able to give back a little of what we received during the aftermath of the Black Saturday bush fires of Feb 09. Hope all is well and becoming a little less soggy at your end of the country – although I did hear a forecast for more rain – bugger!

I hope the only thing that continues to pour down is more donations!

It’s still making headlines here in Canada as well as east coast flooding (where my youngest goes to Uni) where people are finding out too late they’re not insured. That’s why we need to follow the example of the Happy Jacks and stick together.

(I’ve never seen these birds before. Do they always huddle together like this? It’s amazing! So many things you take for granted that amaze the rest of us – kangeroos, Happy Jacks, koalas, Hugh Jackman…)

People really are amazing when disaster strikes – we’ve seen it in the US with tornado and hurricane devastation as well as floods. But Australia is one heck of an amazing country that I would love to visit!!!

    Hang in there, friends.
